I thought for sure he would stay in Russia. Good for the Hawks. Lets see what he has in training camp this year. I know in the past he has been a stand out.

Good to hear, I always liked that guy for some reason.

I wonder what the holdup was in signing him, it meant he missed Prospect Camp. Is he playing in Europe currently or am I just a moron missing something obvious here who shouldn't be typing before finishing my coffee?

That seems potentially like good news, despite my inherent skepticism re Russian players. He looked very good in camp when I saw him. Am I remembering correctly that he did not want to play in the AHL, which was why we couldn't sign him in the past and he decided to stay in the KHL? Looks like he may realize he has a good shot at the big club this year and is willing to take his shot. Nice salary.

One of the best prospects minus Kane and Toews I've ever seen at Prospect Camp. Plays a two way game, has size, definitely hits and plays physical and has skill with the puck.

Very interested to see where he fits in Camp. Definitely a replacement for Versteeg. Very excited to see if he can finally contribute to the Indian Head.

Don't have any time to read the article... just quickly post, lots of stuff to do today! Does this mean he'll be in Rockford next year? If so, very excited to see him live 5 or so times!

It's not an article Stu but from a listing of contracts signed today via CapGeek. The Hawks have not issued a press release. Perhaps they will do so later. Might include other signings.

As for Rockford, it's not sure thing if he does not make the Hawks. Unlike all other European leagues, the Ruskies/KHL do not have an agreement governing contracts with the NHL. So it's possible he could bolt "back in the USSR" if sent to the Rock.

His contract also (I believe) includes a Russia clause. Meaning that if (when) he starts acting like a regular ego-tastic Russian and pisses everyone off, he can be reassigned to Russian and/or KHL.

That being said, I hope he does make it and the talent shines. If he can keep his ego in check, he'll be just fine.

Did not see this one coming. Had all but written him off by now. Hopefully he'll be ready and get a shot on the big club.

He's been to prospect camp already the past couple of years and has shown already what he can do among kids and there was no reason to have him in prospect camp again. I am sure he will be joining the proper training camp later this summer and fight for a spot.

Great low-budget signing..hopefully he pans out and fills Versteeg's offensive production at a lower cost. I've never seen him play....eager to based on alot of reviews - high marks there, RK.

From what I've seen, I don't see this signing as a precursor to an assignment to Rockford. At that salary, I think Makarov has a better chance of making the opening night roster than Beach does. Makarov is also older than some of the guys he's competing for spots with. I think he has the early edge to grab a spot on the third or fourth lines.

Sounds a lot like Jack Skille. Has some talent but more of a 4A player.

Unless he just bombs I see no way he will be in Rockford this fall.

I don't picture him coming over without almost complete assurance he is staying with parent club.

If you mean talent wise, Makarov has more then Skille. I really think he's going to shine in the NHL and make the opening day roster. When I saw him he was one of the bright spots on a prospect camp that had Beach, Aliu and Niemi.

Glad he finally came over.

Really? Not from what I have heard and seen. He has some skill. He should make the big club this year.......especially at that salary.

This kid is really good, I would be surprised if he did not make the team.

Great signing for 512K, amazing deal for two years the Hawks are really going to get some bang for their buck here.

His first prospect camp he was very good. Probably the best out of all the players attending. His second prospect camp -- 2 years ago he was good at the start but had a lower body (knee injury) towards the end and could not play. He did attend training camp that year and played on a line with Havlat and Toews. They looked very good in the Red vs White game in Rockford. Ironically the same time Seabrook kicked Beach's ass for being an idiot. I can definitely understand him NOT wanting to play in the AHL where he makes 65k per year, verses the KHL where he makes probably 2 million. I don't neccessarily agree with that, but in the same position 2 mil per year or what ever is MUCH MORE than 65k.

Tallon was very high on him and apparently Stan was too as several times last year Stan said he would be in the picture. Probably anticipating the Cap crunch. I have never been disappointed in what I've seen him deliver on the ice. I also doubt he will play in Rockford.

There are now 380,000 reasons why the Hawks will let Skille's Qualifying Offer expire tomorrow.
