Of the 5 the Hawks lost...the goal production lost is - 54 between Byfuglien (17), Ladd (17) and Versteeg (20)...

Could Makarov (0), Stahlberg (9g-40gms), and Bickell (3g-16gms) ...hit 54 between them? I also think 82 gms of Hossa nets more than 24, or Toews is better than the 25 he got as well. A full year of Bolland should get more than 6 also.
Yeah! Preach it Brother! Lemme hear ya. All that good stuff.

DROP THE PUCK. Usually I can't stand waiting. But this summer it's different. Much nicer to wait while basking in the glow of the Cup.
I agree with you raptor...to start...

Makarov - Toews - Hossa

Stahlberg - Sharp - Kane

Bickell - Bolland - Brouwer

Kopecky - Reasoner - Dowell

Makarov and Stahlberg both sound more like "skilled" players and should be on a skill line..who knows though until it gets going
That's actually a really nice lineup! Lots of scoring opportunities on the top 2 lines and quite of bit of scoring potential on the 3rd as well.

I think this is a thread we look back at 1/2 way through the season we look back and say this was the best move of the offseason...

or at least I hope....

This was the first training camp I attended and I was really impressed by this guy as well...I was shocked he didn't get a chance a few years ago.

That makes two of us. Cap wise I'm guessing he plays in Chicago this year.

I think it was the exact opposite. I have heard that SKA St. Petersburg is very good and because they had so much talent, Makarov saw very little ice time on those teams.
I only looked at Moscow Dynamo. Yea looks like there alright and SKA is sick.

JT - $6.3 million

Kane - $6.3

Hossa - $5.275

Sharp - $3.9

Bolland - $3.375

Kopecky - $1.2

Reasoner - $1.15

Brouwer - $1.025

Stalberg - $850K

Makarov - $552K

Campbell - $7.142

Keith - $5.538

Seabrook - $3.5

Hjarmarsson - $3.5

Scott - $512K

Total : $50.119 million

We still need to sign 2-3 forwards, 1-2 Defensemen, and 2 goalies for about $5.7 million (thanks to the Toews and Kane bonuses). That means the remaining slots have to cost us on average between $600-700K. Anyone who thinks we are going to keep that group of 15 together and still sign a Marty Turco to man the net is kidding themselves.

I think there are some certainties here. I'm fairly certain that Toivonen will be our backup at $550K over Crawford at $800K. I'm also fairly certain that we won't have the cap room for Kyle Beach at the NHL level and that no matter what Niemi gets in arbitration, he's gone.

We are still extremely tight on the cap now. I don't see how we are going to do this without moving another guy. Like RK, if that guy is Sharp, I'll be steamed.
No offense to Kaner of course but Makarov-Toews-Hossa gives me a stiffy.

Other than PK and JT I've never seen anyone in a Prospect Camp with as much raw talent than Makarov. I hope I'm not just nuts.

I'm also fine with Sharp and Pat together. Plus Pat likes playing with either Sharp or JT.

They do something dumb and trade Sharp I will be extremely pissed off.
I know right? Just thinking about that makes the ole girls perk up!

DAMN but I like those lines proposed by Ebony---and he already knows how much I jones on Hossa playing with Toews so this takes it to the next armchair coaching level in terms of "Squee!" factor, lol. This Makarov news along with yesterday's Hjalmarsson news has been a fantatsic 1-2 punch for fan morale seeing as we've really only had bad or "bummer" news for a couple of weeks straight. The hockey gods threw us a bone or two here.
I guess that depends if Turco would play for 2.5 mil or below?
Depends if Turco wants to sacrifice nothing financially to have a chance to win the Cup.

I'd think that the money Turco has accrued over his many years playing that he'd HOPEFULLY be willing to take a paycut to play for a contender.

Athletes are so fuckin stuck up these days.

Move Reasoner at 1.15 million. Dowell(525K) becomes the 4th line center and Bickell(650K) essentially equal Reasoner's dollars. With Toivonen as the back up the body count= 17 with 4.61 million to spare.

If Niemi comes in at 3, the Hawks can add 3 minimum contracts and carry a 21 man roster.

Sharp will not be traded.

jonesie, how ya doin? I took your advice and came on over to IHN. I like your new digs. Good hockey talk with a lot less haranguing thickness.

As to those nifty line combos - alas I cannot take credit. I merely suggested that Makarov and Stalberg may end up being the best two LWs to play on the top 2 lines. PMX threw the lines together, but I agree they have promise. I too like the Toews-Hossa combination, although it's difficult to argue against Toews and Kane staying together.

There's still a lot of "ifs" in this scenario but the signing of Makarov for the friendly cap figure is all good.

p.s. howza bout them white stockings?

Here's a capgeek 21 man lineup with the following assumptions for RFA signings Boynton (750K), Bickell (600K), Niemi (2.0M), and only going with 12 forwards as Scott, as the 7th d-man, can be plugged in for emergencies. There is over $500K cap space left.

Oops! My bad then---props to PMX then! What it all boils down to is that though I love when Hossa gets to play with Toews most, in the end I'd probably be amenable to any kind of mash-up of those Top 6 on the first two lines and I suspect with the long slog of an 82-game season and it's associated ups and downs we'll see a lot of mixes. . .it *is* Q we're talking about afterall, LOL! I am just stoked we managed to snag Stahlberg and decided to bring Makarov back over---I was wondering what was up with the latter but it looks like now we know the Hawks were just busy signing him under the radar. Can't wait for Training Camp to begin.

As for our white stockings---AMAZING! I have been going pretty insane in their thread, heh.

Doubt he plays on the big squad unless his cap hit is favorable. It is very unlikely that he went backwards in salary and he was making $1.275 last year. That puts him out of the ballpark without a trade to clear cap space. And I don't see them sitting there in the boardroom right now saying we have to move someone so we can ice Skille. And Beach may beat him out since they will most likely be close in salary.

His base salary was 850K with bonus money kicking it to $1.275M. Standard entry level deal given his draft position.

His Qualifying Offer started at 850K + 5% at a minimum. This gives the Hawks right of refusal(draft picks) if a team gave Skille an Offer Sheet. No team is willing to do that.

He has to come down to a cap friendly #(a really friendly # for a former top 10 draft pick) or he can ride the bus for $50,000.
I agree RK...I think though Stahlberg could be the "key" to the team/forward group...if playing with Sharp and Kane (for instance)...if he could be a 25g guy...they would have 3 potent lines.

And the avg age of those 4 lines...25.6 yrs old
Again!
