Sheppards are my favorite cause they are so consistently smart. Like really smart. Don't really care that much about how they look, and I would actually prefer they were a little smaller. But damn, I love when dogs make eye contact when you talk to them and you can tell they are genuinely trying to understand what youre saying.

I watched a retired German sheppard police dog do some drills at an exhibition years ago. It was freaking amazing, he climbed a ladder to get on top of a roof and came back down the same ladder, that alone was ridiculous. The search and rescue drills were impressive as well among other things. The dog was just so excited to "work".

Check out Dutch shepherds. They are incredibly smart too but are typically a little smaller. Some good police training videos on YouTube.

Me too. I figure to each their own. I got my pup from a puppy rescue that goes to 7 states every week to pick up puppies. She was from New Mexico. They say she is part Dutch shepherd. I had never heard of them until then. She is 65 pounds but she is probably 10 pounds overweight. She got fat when I had two knee surgeries and couldn't work her out like she needed.

My son in law is a K9 cop. Smart dog but fucking crazy. All he wants to do is work. He knows what time his shift starts and gets ready.
