I don’t want some weird marriage. That sounds just like something the bears would do. Sounds good on paper in reality it’s a mess. If McCarthy has someone he wants to bring in a role like this then sure.
You don't choose coaches for the guy you're hiring to be your head coach, especially a name like M.McCarthy, but you can put in a word for TB and at least ask McCarthy to talk to him and see what he thinks about keeping him around as his OC or anywhere on offense if TB doesn't get a good job elsewhere.

No one suggested forcing Brown on anyone. The premise was McCarthy chose to retain Brown.

By this dumb logic Ben Johnson was forced on Campbell because Campbell kept him when he was hired. What a terrible decision that was.

Brown and Waldron run variarions of McVay's offense which comes from Shanny's outside zone and Shanny's outside zone is a derivation of Walsh's West Coast offense. McCarthy's O also has West Coast roots via the Holmgren arm of the West Coast Offense. So branches of the same Walsh tree.

As for why it makes sense, continuity as Clark said.
You can trace almost any offense back and find a connection, but that doesn't mean it's similar. McCarthy's offense doesn't strike me as very similar to Shanny's offense, but who knows.

If you get McCarthy you let him pick his OC. If that is Brown then fine. For all we know it might be someone like Kellen Moore.
Kellen Moore already has an OC gig so Eagles can refuse the Bears. Has to be someone not already an OC most likely.

Thomas Brown will get a job somewhere. I don’t need this Bears front office to nudge along anything football related to the HC. If it’s his idea sure.

Why are people so fascinated by Thomas Brown??? Seriously, there aren’t enough loser diversity hires on the Bears already??

This is just the kind of bullshit back-up to the back-up plan’s back-up plan that happens when the Bears whiff hard on every single decent candidate and have to settle for some convoluted nightmare that will unravel even faster than Trestman and Eberflus did.

Route concepts are pretty similar. Terminolgy and what plays you like vs certain coverages are different. Think Waldron's was also a pure progression system but not sure McCarthy's.

Waldron had hardly any mesh routes. McVay did use them a lot this year due to Oline and Wr injuries.

Also Waldron lacked play action and didn’t run the ball a lot. Recipe for disaster on bad Oline and rookie QB.

Another thing to ponder is Rodgers is Caleb's favorite player so getting Rodger's HC/OC may be a plus. Caleb likely grew up watching McCarthy's O.

What offense works best when your OL is a55? Find the coach that runs that offense because bringing in a coach that can’t implement his offense due to poor personnel isn’t going to have much success.

It's not so much hate on him as it is "what's to like?" For all the same reasons you listed about, we have no idea what his offense would be like outside of all that. Furthermore, his team was pretty sloppy while he was HC.

He didn't really show much to want him tbh. It is understandable given the situation, but still.

Also the idea of yet again forcing coaches on another coaching regime is ludicrous at this point. Have we learned nothing? You wanna bring Morgan along as OL coach too??
I loved all his 1st half game plans and scripted plays.....oh wait

It's like the fking meatball fan base didn't watch a damn snap of football the last 8 weeks

Thomas brown for OC I could tolerate, wouldn’t be my first pick, but he wouldn’t be the worst by any stretch. But HC pairing with McCarthy? Sorry, just can’t.

I know Erin Rodgers is an uber-douchee, but he was onto something when he told people at the end of the coach’s time in Green Bay that he would listen to McCarthy call a play then he’d change it in the huddle because McCarthy didn’t know what he’s doing at most points of a game.

Then, he goes to Dallas. Dak doesn’t get elevated, other than bumslaying bad teams, and then against good talents, he folds like a lawnchair in summer. The problems in GB didn’t really look like they were solved, unless you consider him changing the name of his offensive playbook from ‘west coast’ to ‘Texas coast’ offense as a positive.

How does he beat out Detroit and Minnesota, who are better than Philly and the commies?

You have to excuse him, he doesn't put a lot of thought into his posts.
