okay, you're right. My Bad. Though, both Klemmer and I (Goaltenders who have been run a number of itmes) are calling it a dive. But you (some guy) will teach us all.

Here though, which is an over reaction...

or

just sayin'

What do me and Klemmer know though?

Don't forget me... I've been playing goal for over 12 years and have no doubts it's a dive. He grabbed his face, I can understand if it was a neck injury as his head snapped back... but he took his helmet off to check if his nose was still there? I smell bullshit. No chance did he hurt his face. No one stays on the ice for 5-10 minutes unless it is serious!

Smith was throwing his gloves before the hit was even over. And the speed at which he spun did'nt appear to match the impact required to create such a reaction.

Could a 180 lbs guy moving 1/3 his top speed, that tries to avoid the goalie, which is 6'4" and over 200 lbs. be able to create that type of effect?

Isn't a player who receives a head shot, supposed to be forced to a "quiet room", and be evaluated. Like Halak was ? Or Alfredsson?

It was pure bullshit. As someone said before, the reaction of Smith's teammates told it all. No one went after Shaw, no one even looked at Smith. It was a farce. Things like this happen in soccer!

I didn't see one test done on him at anytime before he got back in net. Not even a watch my finger. And I saw no retaliation by the yotes. If he was hit as hard as it would have taken to actually spin him around like that then he should have been taken off the ice and its gross negligence by the entire organization with such a huge focus on the head hits. If you'll notice they first took Shaw straight to the box meaning they weren't going to give the GM. Wonder what changed their mind?

You guys should know by now that you can't argue with Variable. He is always right, and if you disagree you are a moron. Simple laws of physics state: If you get hit in the side of the face, your head turns sideways, not towards your back. I'll give him the spin-o-rama for the sideswipe, but the falling backwards and flailing is just plain acting. Also, if you watch closely (which the refs couldn't do) Smith is just standing there trying to decide what he wants to do with the puck. Shaw has just as much right to that puck as Smith does. Shaw's eyes are clearly on the puck, and Smith once again throws himself in the direction of an oncoming player (a la Toews). Smith turns his head at the last second right into Shaw, who was clearly trying to avoid him. I don't know what the argument is. Penalty? Yes. GTI. Nothing beyond that was warranted. If the rules state "he should have known better than to go back there" then why don't we just let the goaltenders skate all over the damn ice and do what they want? Was Shaw just supposed to stop at the goal line and wait to see what Smith was going to do?

haha Rex. You'll learn sooner or later experience means dick. Or your experienced in dick. Maybe both.

Hey Rex try debating with him the color of blue. Variable argues just to argue.

Smith sold it. Toews said the zebras told him as much.

I was in printing for almost 15 years, and have heard multiple discussions about blue.

Not a single one was interesting.

Hey Samurai, doesn't Bushido require you to avenge Shaw's dishonor by killing Mike Smith?

Here's the real question should Shaw receive another penalty if he really cleans Mike Smith's clock, double jeopardy and all that.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
See the point is that people are SURE that it was an embellishment. That it HAD to be that. That somehow you are positive of how a player reacted to a hit to the head and that you are sure he's faking it. How can you possibly be sure about something like that? I'd agree with you if he never got hit in the head and it was a true flop or maybe just barely brushed or something.....but he got hit with a shoulder and it fucking snapped his head around. And we're talking about "dramatically" moving his hands and legs as that happened as some kind of proof that he's faking it? Really? That's the discussion around this hit? Only in the NHL.

Who knows what Shaw gets, that's already been fucked by the Weber ruling, it can be anything.

Soccer makes game changing flailling embelishments when not even hit as part of the game plan. Lol

Okay, at the BWW where I was at, we were watching the Timbers/Galaxy match right next to the 'hawks game, where we got to see Beckham in all of his "glory" for a good side-by-side comparison.

Smith put Beckham, Crosby, both Sedins, and Greg Luganis to shame. Had that hit happened in Chicago, Pelico would have been obligated to play some Ronnie James Dio after the hit.

That being said, I could see the 5 given in the then-and-now of the game--even though it's on the harsh side of fair. We also have to realize who owns the Coyotes; did anyone NOT expect Shaw to get the book thrown at him? I wouldn't be surprised if Shanny told Shaw his phone hearing has to be an in person one, and he'll be summarily suspended for the entire playoffs.

...If there is any suspention its going to be one game. Im not concerned. I like shaw a lot but if this team cant overcome losing him for a game then shame on the hawks. This play is getting too much attention. Im sure the hawks arent sitting around yapping about it. Time to get focused for game 3.

Totally this....who cares? Suspension or not, the NHL and Shannahan are an effing joke when it comes to this crap. Shaw or not, let's play game three...

That is not justice; Shaw is still alive.

What have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully? Had

you come to me in friendship, then this scum that ruined Shaw's game would be suffering

this very day.

I know everyone here really wants to stick up for Shawsie and I'll say upfront that if the goalie is out of the crease then he is fair game. But some of you are really taking this to the next level in regards to Smith's reaction to taking a shoulder to the head. While his reaction was VERY dramatic and may have been embellished, I know from playing that the last thing anyone is able to do in a split second WHILE being hit is consider "How can I ham this shit up?" This all happened very fast and a guy on ice skates getting spun around is not implausible. His initial reaction after hitting the ice could where he grabbed his face and writhed in pain could have been totally genuine. It fucking hurts to get punched in the face, now lets consider he got hit with a shoulder and more force than a punch and he was hunched over when it happened.

It isn't crazy to believe that he really got jacked in the face, had his head whipped back, his momentum carried him head over heels...and it freaked him out.

Now, why didn't Shaw choose discretion? He didn't think Smith was going to consume the whole fucking area behind the net, he's young, and he had every right to make contact with Smith. He also didn't think Smith was going to lean over like that. Shaw is a foot shorter than Smith, so if Mike hadn't bent over to shoot the puck, Andrew would not have been tall enough to make contact like that.

It would be total bullshit if Shawsie gets more than one game for this. Totally unfair if he gets one game, but understandable from Sham-a-ban at the same time.

Let's hope its nothing but a stern talking to and a 'don't do that shit again, kid."
