Matt Holiday may have just blew out his knee. I thought he was going to get carted off but he walked off with a major limp. He look like he was in horrible pain.

Really. How does that team keep in fist place with the bad luck?

Yea, he rolled around in major pain for a little bit. I don't want to speculate but it could go either way. He seems like a tough guy and he looked like he was in agonizing pain.

Of course, cards fans are saying that's 4 key guys injured. Matt Adams was horrible offensively and defensively before he got hurt. And who is 4th? Waino, holliday, Adams....jay, also playing poorly, missed 2 weeks

We drafted switch hitting Starlin Castro?

A switch-hitter who figures to show the ability to hit for average with solid power from both sides of the plate, Happ's been a steady producer. He's also thrived using wood bats in two Cape Cod League stints. Defensively, things are less certain. He's played all over as a collegian, but his likely landing spot will be an outfield corner or second base. If he's to man the middle infield, then Happ will need to show some skills growth in the minors. He also has some speed on the bases.

Didn't see it but in the draft i believe they said it was a quad injury.

Chris Betts feels like he could make sense for the cubs in the second round if he's still there. Fits the high grade hit tool they tend to like.

Haven't been watching. Is this another case of pitchers going off the board? Or are we just that dead set on position players?

I understand Happ, as a couple P's went off the board.

And I don't know enough about Dewees to assume it's a case of having to have an OF or whether it was just good value.

Someone who is paying more attention...what say you?

I would look into current needs when looking into this.

I don't get what they are doing over all though. Seems they are getting arm shy now.

He put up some insane numbers but his hit is his arm strength. It is pretty noodle from what was said. The league he was in was pretty cheese but they feel that his talent plays at the next level anyways. Man among boys was the tag on him.

Ok pick. His speed makes him a good pick. Not that it means much.

I mean they got 2 of the top 35 hit tool guys who were both college bats who tend to be more projectable. Pitching is inherently risky. I'm sort of ok with what they got. Happ might have gone a bit higher than some would have rated him(similar to Schwarber keep in mind) but Dewees was in klaw's top 20. This is typical best player available.

I know its not good to assume but these are 2 soon to be 22 YO kids out of college, so to me it says they expect them to rise fast.. 1 is a utility type, the other is a CFer i believe..

Have to think they plan on getting their pitching via trade and or FA this year..

Not saying their bad players or picks..

Just that now they have a surplus of OFers that are projected to rise within next year or two..

Plus Schwarber, or Bryant who some suggest could end up in OF...

I personally think their setting up for a trade...

I wouldn't project either being every day players. Now they could play themselves into that position.

My opinion is I drooled over the Bryant pick. Schwarber I did not. Happ I did not. Schwarber played himself into the convo as most thought that the Cubs signed him just to add more cash later on to sign some hard to sign pitchers. I feel Happ agreed to less cash than the pick and they took him. Same situation with Schwarber. Again done to sign some hard to sign players later round.

Now on any trades with Philly? I haven't heard anything about them giving up talent for Cole. Pretty pipe dreamy at this point.

Now if Stl takes a nose dive with their rash of injuries I could see the Cubs striking while the iron is hot. Anything could happen. Still it is far fetched at this point.

Regardless this draft should have little to do with any future trades. Outside of picking the best talent (as they view it)

You really have to be a super baseball diehard to sit through 70+ picks of a baseball draft...

Mlb network should just show 1st Rd next year on tv..
i doubt anyone really watches beyond their team first pick..
