Take Bryant. If Wood, Feldman and Villanueva can have success as SP for the Cubs, they should be able to find pitching adequate enough to fill out the rotation. *Arms (in the draft) are too risky.

I will agree with Pat, take Bryant in the 1st, Puk or Manaea in the 2nd, then a Catcher in the 3rd. After that, it should be about the best Pitcher or Catcher available.

I want Appel first, but if houston takes him then Bryant seems the best.....

Jon Denney I'm a big fan of. Though as I posted a second ago I dont know the market for teams needing catchers and hes listed as the 3rd best one by most behind two offensive first catchers Reese McGuire and Nick Ciuffo.

Puk in the 3rd would be icing on the cake

Dumb...

The best player period 2 years running falls to their laps twice and they're going to walk away because of Scott Boras? Free agents will note that the cubs are being cheap......well at least the good ones worth having.

Appel at 2, Jon Denney at 41. Best pitcher, 3rd best catcher, if he falls. I dont know the market on teams needing an all around great bat, great defense catcher.

Keep this simple.....I'd be a happy camper

I don't know about all that, but what I do know, is that Appel reminds me of Jake Peavy. Ill take that every single day so long as Boras doesn't pull his shit. Signability is the biggest thing right now and considering the Lastors already passed up on him last year for the second coming of Luis Montanez, and the Pirates refused to even deal with a pitcher last year who would have been better then both of their two top pitching prospects, save the damn drama and get somebody who can actually help this team with the most important pick in the draft right now. Bryant could be had for under slot, is a huge bat, and with projected first rounders dropping like flies, the second round pick has a substancial amount of value attached to it right now.

I am all for Appel, but Bryant kind of fills a huge hole, also.

My order of choices would be Gray, Appel, and Bryant.

I just prefer Gray to Appel as a player, many will disagree, but in my opinion the two are close but I see a bit more potential from Gray, though perhaps a lower floor as well. Can't complain if we get Bryant, I've been deadset on a pitcher but obviously Bryant is viewed as a pretty special hitter right now too.

Either way, playing the imagination game again, a rotation of Appel/Gray, Samardzija, Garza, Wood, and Jackson (can't be perfect everywhere)/Johnson is really appealing an an infield of Bryant, Castro, Baez, and Rizzo is pretty intriguing as well.

Unless we **** up extremely bad this farm system is getting a major boost today. We will get a sudden new top pitching prospect that will join Johnson (obviously ahead of him though) and Vizcaino (if he is ever healthy) or we will get a huge bat to join our threesome on top of the farm of Baez, Soler, and Almora.

Any of these three picks would be great for the organization, though you can argue over which prospect is actually better, and today is a HUGE day for us!

Callis hears “a lot of buzz” that the Cubs are closing in on a deal with Appel. Obviously they can’t yet literally make a deal with him, but there can be sufficient winking and nodding for the Cubs to have comfort in selecting Appel (who may prefer to wind up with the Cubs over the Astros, anyway, even if he hails from Houston). That said, you have to regard the rumor suspiciously at this stage in the game. It could have been leaked by Appel’s camp to try and get a little extra money from the Astros (i.e., he tells them “I’ve got a $6 million offer from the Cubs, and I’m going to take it unless you agree that you’ll offer me $6.5 million … and if you draft me without an agreement in place, I’m going to hold your feet to the fire for $8+ million”).So, yeah. Maybe the Cubs are close to a deal with Appel and he’ll be their pick tonight. Or maybe Appel really wants to go to the Astros, and just wants a little more scratch.

I've been watching quite a bit of video on Gray.

The kid is built like a tank and throws that plus fastball rather effortlessly. Even at or close to the one hundred mark it has some movement most of the time.

What I like about his arsenal the most is his curveball. It's plain ass nasty.

Appel appears to be the more polished of the two, with better control over all his pitches.

Gray pitches with aggression while Appel is more under control.

I think they could both make the pitching staff more interesting. Gray clearly has the power strikeout stuff over Appel in my opinion.

I'm leaning more towards Appel but I would be happy with either one.

I'm thinking the Cubs order right now is Appel, Bryant, Gray, just a gut feeling. I still have Gray, Appel, Bryant as I stated earlier.

Well reading here that will thinks the Cubs should take Bryant guarantees in my mind that Appel will win at least 1 Cy Young Award and Bryant will end up being the next Brandon Wood.

Maybe he can join Milton Bradley and your daughter on date night?

Hmmmm, Appel to Houston. Gray or Bryant to the Cubs, I'd assume.
