You're still not seeing the big picture. It's not just the money, it's the years and the commitment. No organization is going to commit to a two-win player for five seasons heading into his declining years, even at $15mil AAV, and even with a prospect thrown in. There's a reason why the Jon Jays of the world have to get by one and two-year deals. Maybe if Heyward bounces back a little they could swap him for another bad contract, but that doesn't make much sense since Heyward does have some intangible value, and whoever they have to take in return wouldn't.
You do know he only 28 right?
He far from the "declining years" at age 29 to 33
He a GG .260 hitter , youre arguing for the sake of arguing if you really think teams wouldnt pay him 15 per over next 5 years to start...
So
In your thoughts...
Players who are 29 30 and been regular starters shouldn't get 4/5 yr deals because theyll start to really suck then.
Rizzo 28 options shouldn't get picked up after next year, Bryant will be 30 when he eligible to be FA so cubs shouldn't extend him after his ARB years and let him walk...
That basically what youre saying
