This is delusional. Heyward is still owed $106mil after 2018. No one is going to accept that contract for, at best, a 2-win player. The Cubs would have to eat $50mil to make that realistic, and that's not going to happen. Just stop.

They will when you give up your international money and Alzolay

Guarantee to you two..

Heyward at age 29 were a FA after this year he would get 15-17 per offers..

for what he's produced? Not a chance. Way too hard to teach an old dog and Heyward is an old dog

We can go round n round with our opinion on this... we'll see

But

Ill bet if traded , the cubs will get teams willing to pay him 15 mil per and give up a low end prospect..

You should thank me for letting you "live." I no longer gamble 'cause if I did you'd be indentured to me.

You're still not seeing the big picture. It's not just the money, it's the years and the commitment. No organization is going to commit to a two-win player for five seasons heading into his declining years, even at $15mil AAV, and even with a prospect thrown in. There's a reason why the Jon Jays of the world have to get by one and two-year deals. Maybe if Heyward bounces back a little they could swap him for another bad contract, but that doesn't make much sense since Heyward does have some intangible value, and whoever they have to take in return wouldn't.

You do know he only 28 right?

He far from the "declining years" at age 29 to 33

He a GG .260 hitter , youre arguing for the sake of arguing if you really think teams wouldnt pay him 15 per over next 5 years to start...

So
In your thoughts...
Players who are 29 30 and been regular starters shouldn't get 4/5 yr deals because theyll start to really suck then.

Rizzo 28 options shouldn't get picked up after next year, Bryant will be 30 when he eligible to be FA so cubs shouldn't extend him after his ARB years and let him walk...

That basically what youre saying

You are trying to put Heyward in Rizoo and Bryant's class because of age. And it's just not so.

So fortunate you are.

No, you are provably wrong.

How well are these types of arguments working for Scott Boras and Jake Arrieta this offseason?

Actually, I said literally none of those things. What I said, in summary, is that no one is going to pay Jason Heyward his current contract value for his declining years, even if the Cubs subsidize it.

He'll still be a Cub unless the Family decides to empty the bank in a trade.

They could swap him for another bad contract, but I can't think of a good fit off the top of my head.

I guess it's possible. I'd have to look at all the bad contracts out there. Heyward has to be among the worst if not the worst

It's bad but it's not close to being the worst.

Pujols is 38 and was the worst player in MLB last year (-2.0 fWAR) and is owed $114mil through 2021.

Miguel Cabrera is 34 and going to be absolute death unless he bounces back (-0.2 fWAR last year). Tigers are on the hook for $184mil until 2024. OUCH.

Robinson Cano is still good, but he's 35 and owed $144mil through 2023.

Price and a few others could also get ugly.

We will see what the cubs want to do. If he starts playing well they limit his at bats so he cannot opt out, needs to pass 550.

The posts will change if he gets MVP votes, he was a 5 tool player so he should be able to. I really wish they would give him the challenge to lead off and steal bases though.

Maybe he clicks with Davis and they get a few 3-4 WAR seasons out of him. That's not an unrealistic expectation, IMO.

I feel that his mechanics are off. He started with Schwarber’s swing and generated power and now it has evolved into a 2nd baseman’s wet dream.

All I can say is his D over rides his O and for a offensive position on the team it causes concern.

On him and Davis: Proof is in the pudding. We heard all about Heyward’s new swing last off. All I want to see is what they paid for

Every player you mention, I went Hmm in agreement with you. Dang that's a lot of bad deals out there.
