No more Batman: next 'Dark Knight' ditches Chicago

04/06/2011 10:00 PM

After filming huge parts of the two most recent blockbuster Batman movies in Chicago, Warner Bros. is skipping town for the last movie in the trilogy — for Pittsburgh.

The Chicago Tribune reports that director Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Dark Knight Rises, will leave despite Chicago’s more favorable tax incentives.

Nolan’s first two films in the series, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, filmed scenes atop Chicago skyscrapers, chases on Lower Wacker Drive, and famously flipped a truck on LaSalle Street.

It’s hard to imagine Nolan’s Gotham without those iconic angles, and the cash Chicago’s missing out on is notable. The Chicago Film Office’s Richard Moskal said the first two movies combined brought more than $50 million into Chicago’s economy.

But there could be a steel — er, silver — lining. Another super-film Nolan’s working on with Warner Bros, Superman: Man of Steel, is rumored to be shooting in Chicago around the same time, heroically replacing the lost bat-revenue.

Don't blame him, blame the machine. I bet they were pinching just a bit too much now. Thought they had a position of power because they had the first two movies.

I watched The Parking Lot Movie a couple nights back.

Surprisingly well done.

If you have Netflix, it's on instant queue.

Watched Inception today. The CGI was awesome and it was definately entertaining. Knew from the beginning what the twist at the end was going to be.

This is still on my queue, just trying to find some time to watch it. Right now I'm completely engrossed in Iron Man: Armored Adventures... I'm not entirely sure why. Part of me thinks that Stan Lee should slap the creators for making Pepper Potts so fucking annoying.

I liked it. I think anyone who has worked in the service industry can completely relate to it.

Alot of people are asshats and treat you like the scum of the planet and have some preconceived notion they are better than you because they are the one receiving a service.

Reminds me of my second job, my first day as a register worker at McDonalds. I forgot to give the guy a supersize fry(accidentally gave him a large, a problem easily resolved). Pulled in there in a rusted out jalopy with his 2 kids and fatass trailer trash wife. Went on a fucking tirade in the middle of the store at me, told me this was "the only job i was ever going to have". That sort of stuff sticks with you when you are that young, it festered and I took it out on other people I served from that point on who felt the need to be a dick. I hate people that sit on their high horse, and you know what? The worst offenders in my experience were not rich people, it was the blue collar folks that felt the need to piss on you. Like the construction worker finishing his shift, stopping off at browns to get some chicken but doesnt waste any time berating his server who he feels is below him on the food chain, because he didnt get it in the time he thought he should or said he ordered something he didnt etc etc. Guess what asshole, i pissed in your gravy, and 3 of your pieces of chicken were overcooked by an hour hard as a rock and re-breaded to look fresh.

I seriously want to write a goddamn book about my experiences at browns chicken, it had everything from extortion, theft, strippers, pissing in food, sex in public, domestic battery, drugs, and my personal favorite, hiding raw chicken in the potted plants in the lobby, that was a doozy in the summer.

Holy shit that sounds like the craziest place ever. You really should write a book about it. I'm glad there isn't a Browns chicken here.

You had nothing to fear if you were polite. I was not indescriminate with my vengeance upon people. if you came in bought your food and were polite, no harm no foul. If you came in and acted like you were fucking god and belittled me for any reason or another, you would be eating me that night.

that and it was back in the mid 90's in crest hill illinois for me. so if you didnt buy from there between 96-99 I imagine your ok.

In all honesty, you could probably replace Browns with whatever fast food place and you'd probably hear similar stories. I've worked fast food with similar experiences like that, probably not as extreme (like the strippers or public sex) but food tampering, yeah that goes on quite a bit. Sometimes without discretion or "rules". Just because they can.

Saw couple of movies this weekend:

Sucker Punch: Was a very "pretty" movie and shot extrememly well (Snyder's DP deserves a LOT of credit for how well this was shot), as usual though, this means the story suffers a bit. While I won't say I hated the story, it did come off as a touch misogynistic and the fantasy within a fantasy thing was a little odd but I generally enjoyed this more than I though I would. The soundtrack was great and I'll definitely be looking to pick that up. If you're a fan of 300 or The Spirit, this movie will be right up your alley... if you're looking for a cohesive and easy-to-follow story, you may want to pass. Probably worth hitting up in a theater as the effects and sound make the experience a touch better.

Your Highness: I don't know why... but I expected more from this. Maybe it was the celebrity endorsements I had read, but I just thought this would be funnier than it was. Which isn't to say I hated it, just that I thought there would be a little more substance to it. Danny McBride is funny as usual, although Franco returns to generally getting on my nerves. Zoe Deschanel and Natalie Portmans busts are artificially enhanced quite a bit, which is always nice to look at but I'll give Portman more credit than Deschanel as she seems to give a more intense performance despite the material whereas Zoe appears to be phoning it in. The scenery was great and the special effects well done but ultimately this became a "meh" outing at the movies. McBride plays this part well and Portman ably backs him up, but this is probably one you don't need to go to the theater to see. Wait for the Redbox or Netflix.
