Saw couple of movies this weekend:

Sucker Punch: Was a very "pretty" movie and shot extrememly well (Snyder's DP deserves a LOT of credit for how well this was shot), as usual though, this means the story suffers a bit. While I won't say I hated the story, it did come off as a touch misogynistic and the fantasy within a fantasy thing was a little odd but I generally enjoyed this more than I though I would. The soundtrack was great and I'll definitely be looking to pick that up. If you're a fan of 300 or The Spirit, this movie will be right up your alley... if you're looking for a cohesive and easy-to-follow story, you may want to pass. Probably worth hitting up in a theater as the effects and sound make the experience a touch better.

Your Highness: I don't know why... but I expected more from this. Maybe it was the celebrity endorsements I had read, but I just thought this would be funnier than it was. Which isn't to say I hated it, just that I thought there would be a little more substance to it. Danny McBride is funny as usual, although Franco returns to generally getting on my nerves. Zoe Deschanel and Natalie Portmans busts are artificially enhanced quite a bit, which is always nice to look at but I'll give Portman more credit than Deschanel as she seems to give a more intense performance despite the material whereas Zoe appears to be phoning it in. The scenery was great and the special effects well done but ultimately this became a "meh" outing at the movies. McBride plays this part well and Portman ably backs him up, but this is probably one you don't need to go to the theater to see. Wait for the Redbox or Netflix.
I've been very worried about Suckerpunch since I saw all the the "0 star" reviews and such, but at least you bring it back to reality and point out that it's exactly what it's supposed to be. Nothing more Nothing less. At least I can say that I will see it now. I was so disheartened by seemingly everybody giving it the worst review ever that I decided I might not see it.

As for your highness, I've got no preconception that it will be good, but the more I see about it the more I'm hopeful. As for the Portman Rack.. are you sure it's not just her prego boobs?

Mass - I think you'll enjoy Sucker Punch, you just can't go in thinking that it'll be more than it is.

As for Portman's bust - I'm not sure on the time-line of the filming, but I would think this would be pre-preggers.

Yeah, I got excited just by seeing the previews and such because of how amazing it looked, then everyone shit on it so I didn't know if I'd waist my time, I think I'm back to a rent on it.

As for the boobalas, I'll take them anyway I can. Preferably in my motorboating region.

Actually, the top does waiver a little. It's meant to have you question weather he's still dreaming or not. At that point he really doesn't care if it's a dream or if its real. To him, it's all the same and he's finally happy.

A really good interpretation of the ending.

Yeah I agree with that. I don't think the point of it was ever if he was still dreaming or not. It wasn't really a twist.

Isn't that movie 5 years old? I would think if it were going to be on cable it would have been already.

Didn't even pay attention to that. Could be. Wait for it on cable is my standard "This movie sucked!" comment.

Finally got around to watching the Parking Lot Movie. I loved how short it was... and definitely had some interesting characters. Interesting choice for a subject but I felt like the filmmakers were trying to make more of the guys who worked in the lot. Worth a watch.

Director of Restrepo was killed in Libya.

Restrepo Documentarian Tim Hetherington Confirmed Killed in Libya UPDATED

Vanity_FairPicture_1_thumb.jpg

Having survived many dangerous photographic missions in his life, as well as repeated trips to the lethal Restrepo outpost in Afghanistan—now abandoned by U.S. military—where he shot Oscar-nominated doc Restrepo with co-director Sebastian Junger, British photojournalist and Vanity contributor Tim Hetherington, 41, has died during fighting in Misrata between Muammar Gaddafi’s soldiers and Libyan rebels, along with photographer Chris Hondros.

Photographer Andre Liohn wrote from Misrata on his Facebook page:

Sad news Tim Hetherington died in Misrata now when covering the front line. Chris Hondros is in a serious status. Michel Brown and Guy are wounded but fine.

He later writes that this news is confirmed, that he is “at the hospital now.” The BBC then confirmed that “one western journalist has been killed and three injured a mortar attack” during heavy fighting in Misrata. UPDATE: Sadly, Vanity Fair confirms his death.

@TimHetherington‘s last tweet read:

“In besieged Libyan city of Misrata. Indiscriminate shelling by Qaddafi forces. No sign of NATO.”

My condolences go to Hetherington’s friends, family, colleagues, and to Junger.

I am so sad to hear this. Hetherington was one of those rare people you meet who are not only admirably heroic, but good to the bone. He was handsome, alive, charming, sharp, and dedicated to his work, which involved putting himself in the front lines of danger..........

I find it eerily weird that the BANG BANG CLUB has it's media push at the exact same time of the current events. I am not claiming any connection in the least, just is always strange the way the world works.

Wartorn

A documentary on HBO about war and PTSD. Excellent documentary, but one of the hardest documentaries to watch. Very heart wrenching.

Yeah saw that one, it was pretty good. Also saw "Sir! No, Sir!" and that was very eye opening as well. Everyone knows about the "hippies" wanting to the end the Vietnam War, this documentary was about the suppressed story of the GI movement to end the war and it destroys the myth about the Vietnam veteran(s) returning and getting spit on in the airport. Maybe we could take some tips from them today.
