Well, that's what JH has been doing since Rickett has taken over.

I mean Ricketts will tell JH to: Spend $400,000,000 dollars on payroll, and then he'll be shocked when he has to sell the franchise.

ok, the rumors are that Dunn will walk if they don't get an extension done before he hits FA, and Nats sources say they are doubtful that one gets done. If he hits FA, the Cubs have already been marked as front-runners.

Yeah, that's obvious...if there is no deal between the Nats when FA hits, he will walk. The Nays only want to give him a 2 year deal for not that much. At least, not what he's looking forward too. Yeah, the Cubs are frontrunners, as every report has mentione that so far.

I can't wait for 2011 Spring Training... want the offseason to come and go quickly buit with a splash. Aldo want the Reds to lose pitchers and the Hawks to start.

I'm also waiting for the 2011 season to come. However, I love the Winter Meetings in December. That's my favorite part of the offseason.

I think it depends on whether or not we can unload Fukudome, personally. If we can rid ourselves of half his contract (i.e. pay half for him to go) then we could probably afford a Dunn deal...but I'm sooooo damn tired of being handcuffed due to bad, long-term signings...

idk.

Totally agree that if we can get rid of Fuko and only have to pya about half of that contract then definetly go after him. Now if we don't i would like to get Dunn, but it wouldn't surpirse if we didn't.

I'm still laughing over the first page post that said batting average is useless. Nady will definitely be cheaper, but Dunn will bring the thunder and hit 50.

In comparison to other statistics, it pretty much is.

Dunn is kind of the exception that proves the rule...his BA is bad, but he walks SO much more than a lot of people, it almost off-sets his poor BA...and let's be real, the dude isn't batting .170...

I am still in shock that cub fans still ignore the financial situation of the team and continue to live in this fantasy land that the cubs are going to go out and get dunn. the facts have been broken down by many here and it all points to no dunn.

The facts point to no Dunn? The only thing that points to no Dunn is the people who think he will get 15+ million in the first year of his contract. Which, he won't.

Then why have the Cubs and their Players been quoted several times talkign about Dunn. And he owner of MLBTR probably knows more than you (but he IS a Cubs fan), and he think the cubs are the best fit. But the Cubs have been cited saying they will get a Power-hitting Lefty or Switch hitter for 1B or RF (but now it seems only to be a 1B, as Colvin hasn't played First). Odds are they get Dunn or Berkman.

you guys are completley delusional. Wow! way to miss every specific fact in this whole cubs organization. it is this fantasy land that you guys live in. put down the cubbie kool aid for a second and actually read about this team financially, read every specific document on your new owner. you wont get dunn, and i will sig bet all of you for 1 year of wearing a cubs logo.

what is going to be the next statement? he is great for club house chemistry? he has fire and passion?

Show us these "documents about the owner" that say "I am going to be a cheap-ass and not spend anything". I haven't seen anything like that. You are merely making assumptions.

Tom Ricketts says he wants to keep a top 5 payroll and with every team spending more right now, that won't happen. The Cubs are having 40M off the books....plus maybe Hill and Baker who could be non-tender. Also, the Cubs could have half of Kosuke's contract off the books if traded.

I heard he wants to keep a top 5 payroll too, and with all the money coming off, and wanting to sustain the high payroll, how the **** do you (dewey) figure that Ricketts isn't spending?

What money is coming off?

This payroll is already really really high.

Unless we move Fukudome and/or Z I dont see the room for anyone like Dunn either.

Thats keeping a top 5 payroll.

Lilly's 12M
Lee 13M
Nady 3M
Vizcaino 1M
Howry ___
Bradley (money coming for Silva)

Then, maybe non-tender players: Hill, Baker and even Guzman.

Also, half of Kosuke maybe.

The RS will be up there, the Yankess, The Phillies are rising, Cardinals (if they sign Albert), possibly the WS because I think they will keep Konerko and AJ and they wil make about the same. It all depends on the offseason...if the Cubs make minor moves, I don't see them in the top 5.
