Because he just came off a really good season and not a season where he looked washed coming off an injury some thought was a career ender

It’s not a career ender, especially for a freak like chubb. He returned and was working his way back before the foot injury. He’s now had time to completely rehab and get the knee back to order. It’s like you’re totally ignoring Dobbins entire career riddled by injuries and even at his best, he never had near the production that chubbs has had.

He actually had a higher ypc than Chubb. Although Chubb has been way healthier for most of his career, obviously.

So he is recovering from an injury, who cares? Fits right in around here.

But ended the year on injured reserve with an MCL injury on the same knee as his LCL tear, torn meniscus, and torn ACL. He also had a pedal Achilles tear on that same leg. He did look better than Chubb last year, but to say he's 100% better is a bit of a streatch.

Didn't Chubb have major season ending knee surgeries in both of his last two seasons? If he wants to play for a vet minimum type contract, sure why not but at this point he's the equivalent of a scratch off ticket at the gas station.
He did not. Had a knee injury in 2023 and broke his foot in 2024

Dobbins has a long history of injuries but he returned and played well.

Chubb has two catastrophic knee injuries. The last one many people thought he wouldn't return from. Like @dennehy said, he also already had a lot of wear and tear. While he certainly probably returned too soon, he looked like the worst rb in the league and didn't improve over his time playing then got hurt again.

Sure we could hope he will return to form (seems pretty unlikely). If they do that it better be no guaranteed money because he shouldn't make the team if he is anything like he was last year. In that instance I am fine with the chance. I'd just prefer Dobbins because I saw with my own eyes last year that he can still play football at a high level.

Got it. Major knee injury after 2 games and then broken foot after 8 games. Its his age 30 season after two major injuries...

It always comes down to money, how much should they sign him for? Keep in mind they are paying Swift $8M.

Hes a league minimum back at this point until he shows otherwise. Giving him any more would be crazy.

It was a single knee injury that required two surgeries within months of each other. The first was to repair his MCL and meniscus; the second was to repair his ACL. It was a nasty injury, but one that players often recover from, but it usually takes around two years. What's working against him is his age, but his game is not based on speed, so he probably has a good shot.

The Chargers signed JK Dobbins for $1.6M, and he earned another $750K in bonuses. I would think a similar contract, so between $2.3M and $3M.

$11M in RB salary plus the rookie and 2 more guys probably close to $15M for the position. I think that's a lot but doable I suppose.

Most football fans should know that it usually takes over a year to fully come back from a major knee injury/surgery. Happens all the time that they come back after 11-12 months to play, but are rarely ever good or near previous level of play. The following year with another offseason to rehab & train is when it gets real or proves to be career ending. Especially true with skill position players like WRs & RBs.

*edit* broken foot would depend on IF there was also tendon/ligament damage? If he tore his foot too, he won't likely be 100% RB capable to start the year & never if rushed back in '25 (no rush pun intended). Just bone break in foot = same as Braxton & should be fine by Aug. or sooner.

Could be worth a stab at a 29 y/o Chubby with less tread taken off the tires in the last year, if affordable (Bears cap is tight already). High ceiling, also mid-low floor. 🤷‍♂️

Which other NFC N team could it be? Real question...IDK as much about those RB rooms ATM.

I don’t see the Bears spending any real money on this guy for a one year deal.

Yeah....if reasonable he can be the Bears Montgomery.
Swift isn't Gibbs either but they can play the role professionally.
