Maybe McD is waiting to make a big SPLASH at the opening ceremony about resigning Antti. Have to do something to drown out the boo birds.

I don't think Niemi had a great SCF, but he was NO DOUBT better than Leighton. Niemi was a big reason we won game 2. Maybe THE reason. I don't remember Leighton making a big save in the entire series, except for maybe the first 10 minutes of game 5.[/quote]

Really? Go watch the end of game #4 again. What the hell were you watching? Game four he saves Toews shot with an amazing pad save that would have completed the Hawks come back.

Leighton had no chance agains the Hawks fire power. Had the flyers faced a team in the playoffs at any point with the fire power the Hawks had, they'd have already lost. Infact a beat up Boston team should have done it but they "choked".

You give the Flyers way too much credit.

I was thinking about this. It will be interesting to see if there are boos. Niemi's situation could be cleared up before tomorrow's start of arbitration. Zito is really risking his clients pocket book at this point BUT if the Hawks are low balling Niemi, shame on them. None of us know the offer on the table.

Well, his history is that he loves big announcements at conventions.

I just hope he did not sign Zambrano to cover our net.

Only one game was a defensive battle, that being game 2 with a 2-1 score. The other 5 games, never had a goal total under 7 goals. Two games had 11 goals scored.

If those are the stats Niemi is hoping to get a huge pay raise on. He is nuts!

3.5 goals against in the finals. Leighton was 4.

Not good on either side.

3.67 goals against in the finals. Leighton was 4.17.

And just why is this so hard to realize. Leightons number were actually BETTER than Niemi's in the finals, or extremely close. It was NOT a goal tenders SC Finals.

And if not for Campbell tipping Richards shot in the waning minutes of regulation game #6, we'd have been right back in Chicago for Game #7. NO way would Niemi have saved that as it was going to fly right over his shoulder.

Ron, its not hard to realize, not hard at all.

Niemi = Leighton

Hawks>Flyers

Result? Hawks win in six.

However, if I am Turco, wouldn't I be thinking this?

Niemi<Turco

Hawks>Flyers

Result: ???

That's my point. It's not like the Flyers are Columbus here. If he turned down $2 million per year to play for the Flyers when good goalies like Mason and Ellis signed for less to play on crappier teams, then I think he's an idiot.

I think Niemi is going to be our goalie in 10-11 and I think Turco is going to be left holding the bag here. Instead of playing as a starter for a cup contender, he's going to be playing as someone's backup, if he's lucky.

If I'm Turco and theres a chance Niemi is not signing, I am waiting to see what happens. Why---

Toews

Kane

Hossa

Sharp

Seabrook

Keith

Campbell

Hjarlmarsson

STANLEY CUP! Behind a goalie that was NOT spectacular.

I'll bet you a beer that there is NO way in HELL Turco is a back up next year. That's pretty comical.

What are the odds you are putting on Niemi not signing? You think its greater than 50%? Seriously, who do you think is our goalie next year?

And who is Turco going to be the starter for? I ran through almost every team in the NHL so far in my head and most of them have locked up their starter positions. Maybe he still goes to Philly and Leighton becomes their high priced backup, but I doubt it. Where? Give me 2-3 solid choices, because I can't find that many out there. Why do you think the free agent valuations have been so low for goalies? There is simply too much supply and not enough demand for their services.

Why not wait move Niemi and prospect to MTL for Price...since Price, I bet does NOT want to be in MTL - hence the stalemate (MTL was foolish for not keeping Halak, IMO)..then sign Price to a cap friendly deal...

I know...not happening/no chance in hades...but thats my ideal situation

Evan a lot can happen before Oct.

So far there are two UFA goalies worth considering for teams wanting to win. Both are being discussed. How can it be slow when there are only TWO big names out there? Because they are both still there?

Personally I thought Niemi and the Hawks would deal BEFORE arbitration, but who knows. I'm not too worried about it though as I would take either two UFA's over Niemi at this point. Why, because Niemi has 64 games NHL experience TOTAL. I'd like to see him put up at least TWO NHL seasons before striving for a pay day. Especially on a team he just won the SC with.

As far as what Turco is thinking, I can't imagine other than I'm positive he wants a chance to win before his career is over. You saying why is he waiting, you'd have to ask him but I'm also positive he's had deals. Maybe he wants to play in Chicago and it's worth it for him to wait? Maybe as teams get closer to the season they'll want an insurance VET in goal? There are several teams that have a "BACK UP" as starting goalie right now.

And leighton just signed for UNDER 2 mil. He would not be a high priced back up. Huet was a high priced back up.

CHI, WASH, SJ or PHILLY ...he'd be number 1 in any of those 4 teams with a chance to win the cup.

Other team - don't be shocked if LA trades Quick (to Philly - if they cant get Turco)..and Marty could be a number 1 in LA as well.

I've said it before... Hawks fan first, Niemi fan second. If Niemi wants to make some ridiculous salary elsewhere that's fine, but that infringes on the chances for the Hawks to succeed now and in the future.

You are right on all four counts. But under each team's current cap constraints, only Washington can sign Turco for what he wants, which I am guessing is around $3 million based on comments made by him and his agent this off season.

San Jose would have been in cap hell had we passed on Hammer's offer sheet. Philly is already so tight on the cap they had to give away Gagne for that pylon, Matt Walker.

I think the Caps like what they have in Neuverth and Varlamov and would only sign Turco to a one year deal. I think he's looking for something longer than that.

I think he'd sign a one year deal for the chance to win the Cup. Remember after 35 he can sign a bonus laden contract.

No, but it can after this season, when he'll be 35. I think that was my point, but I'm so confused over this thread I'm not sure.

What comments did he and his agent make? all I saw...

6/28/10 - "Traded texts with Turco this morning who confirmed the Flyers' offer but said he wanted to see what was on the market Thursday," said LeBrun on his Twitter profile.
