One of my favorite all time bands. Saw them live a bunch. They aren't on Spotify and that sucks. I could just load all the songs I have on my computer to my phone but that requires work.

They forced other bands to reach for a standard of excellence in creating full albums of good music not the one hit wonders you see today.

This was really the best thing that The Beatles did to music.

During the birth of rock n roll in the fifties...it was all about the 45. You just aspired for that one hit that would be on every radio station and in every juke box and that was the definition of success. The Beatles took the conversation from "Love Me Do" and "Twist & Shout" to "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" with amazing speed. Also seems like the further we get from that influence, the closer we are getting back to singles dominating again.

As to Nirvana. I've glossed over it before, but I did work as an engineer at Sub Pop records in the late eighties and the thought of Nirvana being inducted into something like the RNR Hall of Fame makes me feel this perfect mix of pride and embarrassment....which is exactly how I think Kurt Cobain would have felt.

BTW...if you want to watch the induction...here you go.

Stipe seemed long-winded, but that should surprise no one. Speaking of surprising no one...the whole thing gets awkward and ugly when that train wreck Courtney makes her way to the podium. In fact, I would just jump to the performances at the end. Getting female vocalists on stage was brilliant and would have gotten high marks from Cobain...loved them with Kim Gordon. That could have kept Nirvana going in the nineties if it wasn't for the fact she was already in a much better band.

A good example is the competition between Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. By any standard Wilson is considered a musical genius. Those two competed on every album to better each other. Wilson was obsessed with beating Paul and the story goes that creating the album Pet Sounds nearly drove him nuts

It's funny that you bring up Pet Sounds, because I always thought that album played a large role in why Paul wanted to stop touring and become a "studio band". Gotta credit was Brian Wilson was doing there, but I always though All Summer Long was their best album.

So you dont think there was a competition between BS&T and Chicago?

You dont think there was a competition between Elvis and Ricky Nelson?

Most successful people in the music industry were inspired to better themselves by their peers

The Beatles werent anything special in that category

Elite:

Beatles, Pink Floyd, Doors, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Eagles

Very Good:

Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Neil Young, Moody Blues

Queen was always my favorite from that generation. Brian May's awesomeness is what got me playing guitar as a kid.

I think May is essentially what steered me to finally getting a Vox

For serious.

I don't care about how many sporting events have run it into the ground....I still get chills when I hear a live performance of "We Are The Champions".

Freddie Mercury was the best rock frontman of his (or maybe any) time....which includes superstars like Jagger and Plant.

That's an interesting comparison...Plant & Jagger have the charisma...they elevate the band by being a front man. What's funny is when I think of Zep...I think John Bohnam first...and everyone else is secondary. Best rock band ever IMO

But Mercury could electrify a crowd just singing vocal runs without even the band playing.

I guess I'll be Spotifying Humble Pie and Queen today

And I got my Eric Clapton Strat Blackie because I consider Eric Clapton and David Gilmour the two best.

Acoustic - you cannot beat Breedlove.

Those acoustics are a bargain. Even the entry level ones play great!

That is what catapults him to the top. That and he just owned the stage....no other way I can put it.

You guys can laugh at me all you want for this, but the only frontman I thought came close to level Mercury was at was Axl Rose.

He may be the butt of a lot of jokes now, but back in 1987...I thought he was going to save rock n roll from all the Vince Neals and Bret Michaels of the world.

Totally correct onebud. And the expensive ones too. I went into a Guitar Center probably about 8 years ago to get a new acoustic. I made up my mind that money was not going to be a factor. I went into the back room where they have about 100 acoustic guitars. No price tags on them. I played every siingle one of them, and picked out the one I liked the best, based on plenty of criteria. I told the guy I will take this one, and it was a Breedlove, which I never heard of at that time, I had no idea what it cost. He said $1300 with the case, and I said done. Would have bought it if he said $200 or $4,0000 too. I play it every day, and also play it when I play out at a club.

I've never been much of an acoustic player, unless I'm just messing round the house. But...there is decent cashola in doing a solo or duo shows round here. So I said the hell with it and bought an acoustic. I got a passport Breedlove for shits and giggles...put some new tuners on it. And for around $300 bucks I've got a nice gigging acoustic geetar. One thing I like about them is that they are really loud...yet not too bright.

I'll probably go the Breedlove route, unless someone decides they want to give me an old Martin.
