What I really hate is when people try to tell me the Foo Fighters are better. I'm not saying they're bad, but I've never especially enjoyed them.
And then that argument always leads to idiots saying Dave Grohl is a better artist than Cobain. Not Even Close in my book.

Isn't he though?

I should have prefaced my entrance in this thread by saying I took a college level course about Rock and Roll

That class opened my mind to a lot of music that wasn't country.

That said, we just glossed over Nirvana and I was definitely intrigued by them.

Lots of good thoughts, I disagree with some, but here's some of mine:

The Beatles are my favorite band.

I like old country.

:dealwithit:

Also, I'll post it again, but I've watched this documentary, and it's really interesting about putting the pieces together from Cobain's suicide.

Agreed. I like a lot of the FF stuff (lot of bad stuff too) and Grohl is a better musician than Kurt was, but I believe Kurt was the more gifted songwriter and artist. Grohl writes good catchy pop-rock tunes. Cobain wrote the most important teen sub-culture music of a generation.

LOL. I completely forgot about Soundgarden. Speaking of heroin sound, I always liked STP as well. I didn't mind Pearl Jam, but there's something about Eddie Vedder that makes me want to stand in a bucket of water and punch my tv screen while sticking my fingers in an electrical socket.

No Tool?

Zep always topped the list of music for me. Not just rock, but music in general. I can listen to them all day everyday. I listen to all kinds of music though, and I'll listen to a lot of shit to see if I like it. I can't take country, so outside of the obligatory "country sucks," I don't comment much on it because I couldn't tell you what makes a good or bad country song since all of it is bad to me.

I like Zeppelin a lot, but for me, AC/DC tops it. It seems like they have more upbeat songs, which I favor.

Saw AC?DC in concert. Great show. I love Zep because they weren't just one sound. I like their early stuff that's heavy and bluesy.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Guns & Roses were the only late 80s/early 90s rock bands I ever bothered to buy their actual albums. Everyone else I just stole on Napster so definitely one of the great rock bands IMO and one of the few I could listen to after bumping hip hop and reggae.

In terms of 90's music, outside of some bands already mentioned [AIC, STP, Tool], I also liked The Offspring, Candlebox, and some stuff from Bush.

Speaking of tool, you're the one who thinks The Beatles are an overrated band.

1) That discussion ran its course hours ago
2) That joke was just used 10 minutes prior to your post

You're just too slow Capt. Serious. Pick it up before there's a mutiny.

I kind of hate the Beatles and John Lennon. Does that make me a bad person.

They came along at the right time..American music was going nowhere and they were a breath of fresh air, but I always thought they were waaaaay over rated. I think some of the 60's bands they inspired were better than they were as a band..McCartney/ Lennon wrote some great songs however, and get an A+ for that..

Lennon would frequently piss me off with his bullshit politics, and Yoko can kiss my ass
