It's funny that you bring up Pet Sounds, because I always thought that album played a large role in why Paul wanted to stop touring and become a "studio band". Gotta credit was Brian Wilson was doing there, but I always though All Summer Long was their best album.
I'm not a huge Pet Sounds fan but everyone else seems to be. I was listening to youtube clips from Ron Woods raido show and he was reminiscing about Pet sounds. Check out Ron Woods radio show clips on youtube. Lots of great interviews and stories. I guess he roomed with Hendrix

The mini-May looks intriguing

mini_may2b.jpg

If youre looking to reproduce May's tone..Id say the Geetar is more important than the amp..Of course, the fingers are the most important..lol

And I got my Eric Clapton Strat Blackie because I consider Eric Clapton and David Gilmour the two best.

Acoustic - you cannot beat Breedlove.

Eric Clapton would play like Eric Clapton no matter what guitar he was playing(within reason). Your tone comes mostly from your fingers

Go back and find the selection of guitars Clapton has played over the years, yet he still plays like Clapton

335
Firebird
Flying V
Strat
Gibson hollow bodies

etc

How dare you not recognize the '60 LP & weird painted SG.

IMO his tone did change significantly from the Cream days to D&TD. And then of course the 70's. I prefer his late 60's sounds out of all of them.

I actually do agree with that. I am not one of those guys that has 30 different guitars, and can't play for shit, like a lot of people I know. I spent about 1/50th of the time picking my electric guitar as opposed to the acoustic. What I was basically saying was if the strat is good for Clapton and Gilmour, I am good with that too. The only other electric guitar I have is a Les Paul Gibson. As the years go by, my electric gets very little play time, and the acoustic dominates. When I play out, it is Beatles, Eric Clapton acoustic music, Eagles, Cat Stevems. Allman Brothers, CCR, etc, just plug my acoustic into the PA and done. Makes life real easy.

Bobby Blue Bland and BB King definitely belong in the RR HOF IMO

Most of the early R&R songs were nothing but blues patterns with a rock beat added to it..All of Chuck Berry's songs were blues patterns...Most of the R&R guys were influenced by blues men as you pointed out

But the only HOF Buddy Guy belongs in is the "Loud Hall of Fame"..Ever hear that guy live?..Bust your eardrums every time..I've seen him 3 times, and every time he was too loud.. And then offered up the same old excuse that his throat is sore, but he will do his best etc etc etc..I've soured on him over the years.

I'm biased on Buddy Guy, have met him and his personality won me over. And I was wrong, he's in the RR HOF already.

BB King did Bobby B's induction ceremony. problem is when you include 1 there are a dozens of others that would qualify as blues musicians who influenced rock music.

There are so many talented artists NOT included, both blues and rock that NOT being a member may be more of an honor.

That is what catapults him to the top. That and he just owned the stage....no other way I can put it.

You guys can laugh at me all you want for this, but the only frontman I thought came close to level Mercury was at was Axl Rose.

He may be the butt of a lot of jokes now, but back in 1987...I thought he was going to save rock n roll from all the Vince Neals and Bret Michaels of the world.

Absolutely. I always thought GnR were in a totally different league to Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt and all the rest of these 80s bands. Appetite for Destruction was like a breath of fresh air at the time compared to most of the cheesy nonsense in their peer group.

has anyone ever seen one of these SG?

I personally don't care for SG's...but I wouldn't mind having one with a varitone.

Using metal instead of a plastic guitar pick too. May used to use filed down coins. You can really hear it on a lot of his cleaner sounds too. It gave it a very unique tone on string contact which I always thought was cool.

I think Axl's ego got in the way. He probably should've held onto Slash

The bubble gum metal of the 80's sucked IMO (Poison, Warrant, Winger).

GnR was like a breath of fresh air.

I fergot that derned SG..My apologies..He also played a LP for a while too

I actually prefer Clapton today when he is on the 335..of course, the fact that he usually plays blues on it might figger into it..

No, that I got when I was young, like 10, it is cream colored, and of course I took it around everywhere I was going, and sure that I abused the hell out of it, I think like a deluxe or something like that, I haven't even had it in my hands for years.

I think Axl's ego got in the way.

That is the popular belief.

I tend to give him more credit than I should and think Axl wanted more time in the studio and elevate the band from that dirty LA rock. Meanwhile, the rest of the band just wanted to keep touring so they could keep the party going.

Axl shuts himself off from those guys and they move on without him. So Axl looks like the asshole, but maybe he was just the only real artist in the bunch.

(Even if he would spend the next decade tripping over his own feet)

All the same....amazing voice that man had and absolutely owned the stage....a lot like Freddie Mercury.
