I'm pretty sure Bickell's under contract for the next two years at the same cap hit.

The problem with Bickell as with Frolik, Stalberg, and Kopecky is they don't do the PK or their effectiveness in that area is very suspect. I'm not sure if Morin and Makarov would help in that area. Seems the Hawks have given Kruger and Smith some turns there.

Blah, you are right, not sure why I thought he was done after this year. Great deal, I'll have to edit my first post to take him off "the bubble" it was meant for players with expiring contracts only.

A centerman that can win faceoffs, and kill penalties. A physical winger that is solid defensively, that can play on any of the lines. If the Hawks added someone like Konopka or Reasoner in the middle, and Ladd, I'd be happy. Aside from moving Campbell and opening up more cap space, I don't know what more we could do. I would love to get a guy like J. Staal here, or Laich, but I think that's wishful thinking.

Yea but at an overall 5mil cap hit for a player of his calibur I don't think that contract would be hard at all to move. The structure is brilliant.

I'm only thinking about the 10 years left on the deal. Hossa isn't getting any younger and he's hit a few too many snags the past few years with injuries. Who knows, anything is possible.

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't say it's impossible but I honestly don't think anyone would bite on all those years remaining and give the Hawks a fair deal.

It would be nice if he just returned to his old 40 goal per year self. I don't think we'll have a choice but just to wait and see year after year for the next 10 years.

The structure of the contract might be brilliant from the outside, but it was stupid to give him 12 years when they knew his shoulder was screwed up. Also the fact that he was a UFA and never been in this organization, it's really hard to set expectations without really knowing the player.

Completely disagree on Hossa. The guy does everything and is still just shy of a pt per game player with the Hawks even through the injuries. Probably in the top 5 two way players in the LEAGUE. Again the Cap hit and production is what other GM's will look at. The years fall off in about 6 when he'll be 38 years old. How old is Temuu?

The guys got 388 goals and 124 playoff goals and is still only 32. If the cap hit were much higher I'd agree with you guys, but in the SC era, when the huge payoff days for him end before he hits 40, the 5 mil per year pays off.

Where else are you going to get a player of that calibur, with that experience, and that potential for 5 mil per year Cap hit? The guy does everything...

Still don't think that contract would be hard to move. Especially knowing at year 7-8 he may even just decide to retire and completely wipe the rest and cap hit off the books.

I agree with RK, remember this guy has literally played two game 6 and 7 of the Stanley Cup he past 3 years, also Olympics. That is a ton of extra hockey. Granted he had some time off with some injuries here and there but it all adds up. His presence on the ice, whether on the score sheet or not is like no other players.

Also RK, I think you got career the playoff games played and goals number mixed up. Think the great one would have something to say if he had 124 career playoff goals.

Off-season wise, get Colin Fraser and Sopel back.

I'd like to see Hossa get back to thirty goals a season. Nevermind 40. I'd love for him to be healthy most of a season, too. Producing in the playoffs would be a welcome surprise as well... Have we really got what we paid for the last two seasons? I don't know.

Not sure. Next time your at the UC look at that banner and then think back to game 5 of the Nashville series.

Yea PSR for some reason I grabbed the games played.

None the less I think that contract can be moved in a heartbeat. Everyone seems to forget why the NHL had such a big problem with it. While it's 12 years, Hossa will retire long before the contract expires.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Another thing about the Hoss...

Even if he's not putting up points, unless he's injured (Fuckin' Boynton), he's still nigh-impossible to muscle off of the puck and creates space for other guys. I think of all of our players right now, only Toews comes close...and that's just close (maybe hen Toews 100% fills out he can be just as good).

Again, the thing is about guys like Campbell, Sharp, and Hossa, is that their value may be high, but unless we have someone (A la Niemi or Crawford) waiting in the prospect pool, any proven replacement will cost the same, if not more. Any prospect might not pan out, and even the proven replacements might take a nosedive from their stats. Thus, we may lose out unless it's a case like Versteeg where we have to take a hit on the quality of the player we get back for Cap reasons.

Onto Turco, I agree, if we can sign him for sub 1M as a backup and a locker room guy, Go for it. Give Salak some time to develop, don't rush Simpson & Carruth, and FFS don't let Toivenen sniff regular season NHL ice!

RFA;

Re-sign; Crawford, Campoli, Brouwer. Goodbye Dowell, Stahlberg.

UFAs;

Re-sign Kopecky. Goodbye Pisani, Hendry and maybe Johnson and Turco

I think Smith gets a roster spot next year.

I think there is room for one more yewt from the hogs on the 3rd/4th line (Morin/Olimb/Pirri/Beach/Kruger/Hayes)

They need to sign a 4th line checking/grinfiding forward, preferrable with good wheels.

They need to sign a 3rd/4th line center. Defensive minded guy, good in the circles, PK.

Maybe a 6/7th D-man, not necassarilly a pugilist, but certainly someone who plays a physical game and skates beter than Scott. Could that be Stanton or is he career AHL?

If the price is right, re-sign Johnson and Turco.

Edit; Forgot aboot Frolik. Maybe re-sign him but then there's not much room for a kid from the Hogs.

They need to sign a 2nd line center.

Fixed for my liking
