Nothing wrong with spending a lot of short term money that keeps cap flexibility for the next couple of years; let's all prepare for a lot of one and two year contracts that are easy to move on from.
Agree. Unfortunately it's a pretty damn weak free agency class for tier 1 type players, so no need to be giving out 4-5 year deals to tier 2-3 type players.

So you lock up your own guys and keep your guaranteed commitments for next season (and beyond) low. Its not rocket science, take the cap hit now and save the flexibility for later. I don't love Dre'Mont Jones for a lot of reasons, but if he wants to come on a three year, sixty million dollar deal with twenty of that guaranteed now then great.
$20 mil per? I like D.Jones and don't want to pay him that much.

That sucks for him. I initially was hoping for Carter, but the more I read, I believe Wilson checks all boxes for Bears and may be top priority. He can play all across the line.
I will be very dismayed if the Bears stay in the top ten then draft a guy who is hurt. That said it'd be better than staying at one and drafting Jalen Carter and all the red flags he has.

I don't either but the money to some extent must be spent and as long as there is flexibility enough to move on from him quickly its not as bad as it sounds.

Strap in!
This new info about Carter is going to get real loud real soon and what could happen is he drops and one of those already good/great teams who have a legit respected head coach in place steals him and he becomes a star for that team.

Yeah if it was only $20 of the $60 mil guaranteed then i would be down with it but would still think we can get him for closer to $17 mil per or even cheaper but we'll see.

Paying Dremont Jones $20mil is not a good idea under any circumstances.

And cap space rolls over, so frontloading isn't really a thing. Lower cap hits this year contribute to more cap space in the future.
