Not a fan of this pickup at all. If you were grabbing Seattle running backs, grab Rashaad Penny on the 1 year prove it deal he got from the eagles... At least his 6.2 ypc shows he is effective and production when healthy. This signing is just underwhelming.
You literally just quoted the reason we signed him and you're that fucking oblivious?!? Holyshit

Penny has missed 50% of games since he came into the league.

It’s just weird timing that’s throwing everyone off. This is a guy you sign in a week, not during the tampering period. Guarantee you if this happened on 3/23 instead ppl would be all over this value signing lol
Who gives a shit about timing you sign the players you want. Right now everyone is going through decision making time. If anything it shows how pro active he is being in FA.

Yes, you make a good point. Maybe Poles top plan was to spend big on LB and try to find value everywhere else. The only problem with that is that is a hard pill to swallow to think Edmunds was the top FA priority when we had the most cap space in the league.

Poles specifically stated the importance of premium positions a few weeks ago at the combine. He let Roquan go last season. But now he turns around and goes into a full bidding war for LB...?! It leaves me perplexed. I dont understand the rationale.
Sounds like McClinchey was also a priority of sorts. But the bears didn't want to get into a bidding war with Denver. Given his injury history, it makes some sense. If you start over extending on non elite players that seems like a slippery slope.

Exactly what I thought. Timing made little sense. You can get a guy like Homer late in the off-season. Hell, you can get him in the middle of the season. They also could have drafted someone in the 6th round to do whatever role they have planned for him. Seemed really early to target him.

remember when he was the best GM in the mid to late rounds? A claim that to this day has never been backed.

I remember it being specifically the 5th round that he was decent in finding guys that could play.

Montgomery was one of the few 3rd round picks that Pace ever made as he seemed to think those were better used to trade up for questionable picks in round 1 and 2. And even in that draft, he couldn't help himself and traded his 5th round pick to move up in the 3rd to take Montgomery.

I don’t understand how you sign this fucking bum right after Montgomery leaves. Give it a couple days at least. Or why not just draft 1-2 new RBs? Seems like a complete waste of money and pouring salt in the wound.

Announcing Ekeler is what a king would have done. Only homers like Homer.
Help me understand how you think this all went down.

Montgomery could have been offered an extension at any time in the time Poles has been here if Poles wanted to do that. He didn't offer Monty one. It was expected that the Bears were letting him walk.

But you are of the mindset that Poles saw that Monty signed elsewhere, and panicked and made a knee jerk signing of just any ol' RB because he had to replace Monty? Why would he have felt that he had to replace Monty in half an hour? For what reason? To appease fans? That's ridiculous.

With RBs in FA, Ekeler on the market and a draft with lots of options, you honestly think the Homer signing was a reaction to Monty signing with Detroit?

And why on earth would a GM wait to agree to a cheap deal with a guy if he gets him at a price he feels is right? What good could come of that? You'd wait, so there could be a higher offer? Do you think the guy's price goes down in 2 days?

Maybe for guys who are expecting too much $ like Orlando Brown Jr. But this dude?

I didn't realize Austin Eckeler had 38 touchdowns the last two years. Holy shit. Talk about flying under the radar. I've really never paid much attention to him.
I had him in fantasy the last 2 years. Well aware. Lol. Although he started the season slow. Bad play calling. Fun fact on Homer. I believe he was the one that fumbled against the Niners late in the game to seal the game for the Niners this past season. ?

Ballard, is fucking remedial for signing off on this, to begin with. And Jim Irsay needs to leave the coke alone, and fire Ballard
That was the price of getting Matt Ryan to play for the Colts.

Now the decision of going after Matt Ryan is suspect.

What is the worst is Ballard not doing everything to trade up to #1 (he refused to add Pittman) to get the QB that his owner wanted, while said owner was sitting with Ballard's scrotum in his hand and an evil looking knife in his other hand, ready to lop the scrotum off.

Aaron Rodgers: "They don't give me the weapons I need in Green Bay."

Also Aaron Rodgers: "Get me the exact same weapons I had in Green Bay."

I legitimately wonder if Rodgers wants these guys with him at the Jets so that along with his old buddy Hackett at OC, he figures he will know the playbook, know some guys, and then can skip most of the offseason program again despite changing teams.
