Yes, you make a good point. Maybe Poles top plan was to spend big on LB and try to find value everywhere else. The only problem with that is that is a hard pill to swallow to think Edmunds was the top FA priority when we had the most cap space in the league.
Poles specifically stated the importance of premium positions a few weeks ago at the combine. He let Roquan go last season. But now he turns around and goes into a full bidding war for LB...?! It leaves me perplexed. I dont understand the rationale.
I think his plan was he was going to spend big more on guys who were actually very good to elite. Edmunds was the 5th ranked LB ahead of Quan who was 21st and he likely got the deal Poles offered Quan. Poles didnt let Quan go. He offered him around 18m a year but Quan wanted 20m.
As for the OL and DL players fans keep crying about none of them were top at their position outside of McGary whonwas 4th but that was pretty much due to a 91 blocking grade. Other than that Brown was 19th, McGlinchy was 36 and Taylor was 69. None of them are really worth what they received.
On D, Hargrave was 11th but likley preferred SB contending Niners. For all the talk of Jones he was 102 because his run D sucks. Zach Allen was good as ranked 25 but the guy we actually got ie Walker was ranked 24th.
So I think he is fine overpaying for top end talent but Bears fans have allowed need to fool them into pretending these guys were all top end talent. Most were good in one area but deficient in others.
