Russ and Mahomes both do majority of their damage passing the ball. That’s really the entire point, more so than just being a pocket passer. Their was a stat during lasts nights game that no SB winning QB had more than 100 rushing attempts in a season (much lower in most cases). Again, I think that ends up changing eventually as the game is evolving. However, until someone actually breaks that barrier, it’s an accurate and on point narrative.
That is a silly stat. How many QBs have multiple 100 rushing attempts as otherwise you arent even talking a handful of QBs. You are talking a handful of QBs in just one of their seasons.
For example Wilson had 96 rushes when the Hawks won the SB. He then made the SB the next year with 118 rushes and lost on an Int. So are we pretending Wilson wasnt good enough to win or that those 4 rushes made the difference between him winning in 2013 and losing in 2014? The irony is he wins 2 SBs if thry actually had run the ball instead of pass.
In fact if I look at the QBs that have had 100 rushing attempts whose careers are over a larger percentage of them have made a SB. Wilson, Newton, McNair, CK vs just Vick and Cunningham who havent.
So one could argue a running QB makes it more likely you make a SB not less as 66% of running QBs have made one.
The jury is still out on Jackson, Allen, Fields, Hurts and Murray but 4 of them have made the playoffs.
It is a lazy narrative. It is small sample size noise and really just dumb luck that Wilson feel 4 carries short when he won the SB.
