No, Watson isn't a bust. Same way Velus can't be called a bust, yet. Though Watson cost way more in draft capital and was chosen much higher so he has more expectations.

Can we agree Velus has looked good at times with the ball in his hands and his speed is on display?
I think he looked good once on what i think was a jet sweep for a TD? Whats worse, a 2nd round pick for Watson(a top 10 WR in TDs) or a 3rd round pick for Velus(guy who cant even get snaps)? Watson looks like a guy who can be a starting WR for years to come. He literally has as many TDs as VJ has touches. Velus Jones doesnt look like he should even be lining up at WR.

This is a 25 year old player who was supposed to not need as much development because of his experience. The Bears needed WRs and he was the "wide receiver" drafted in day 2. This isn't a throwaway pick. Its too early to call anyone a bust but thus far Velus screams bust.

Watson 469 total yards and 9 TDs
Velus Jones 72 total yards and 1 TD
His rushing stats appear before his receiving stats, thats how much of an impact he's made as a receiver. Matt Spiegel said it best, he looks like a complete scouting failure.

They traded up for Watson as well if I remember right.

And I agree, Watson is the better WR obviously but 5 targets is a very small sample size for VJJ.

I think him being bad is a reason he doesn't get enough snaps or targets. IDK.

You'd think Poles on a team that needed talent everywhere would bring in a guy who could get on the field more. For a 3rd round pick Velus looks like a disaster.

he's run 15 routes all season. yeah, not good but probably more a playbook thing than anything which isn't good obviously but still a small sample size

Looks like Poles found these starters going forward in his 1st draft:

LT Jones
MLB Sanborn
SS Brisker
NB Gordon(yes he will be fine next season)
P Gill

DE Robinson looks to be a career rotational player

Not too bad but he still whiffed on offensive talent across the board, which seems to be a problem with every GM here

Dude, that's a pretty damn good haul considering the pics he had

Velus is a disaster. He’s a gadget player at best and should have been picked in the 5th or later, at best.

Yeah it really sucks Poles couldn't get every draft pick to contribute right away like virtually no GM ever does. Sucks he is not clairvoyant.

Its okay to criticize his mistakes. Doesn’t mean he hasn’t done a good job.

TBH, has anyone minus Kmet and Mooney got quailty snaps? They spent so much of the season barely throwing the ball, so so kind of unsure what they have in some of these guys.

I mean, the need for one more great WR to get double teams and such is needed, but after them, Claypool and Mooney, the other WR depth for the next few years is probably already on the team.

Of course. It is also ok to criticize people belaboring the point over and over. At this point we all know the people that don't like the pick as they have been crying about it all season. Not sure there is anything left to say. We will see how he performs going forward.

Watson - 40 targets
Velus - 5 targets

Dont see the point of comparing a high 2nd round WR with a fringe mid 3rd rounder. maybe a WR that was available when Velus was picked and the only one who did anything of note is probably Romeo Doubs

Velus has almost no targets because he's been playing football his whole life and doesn't comprehend basics of football such as not running a wheel route out of bounds. He doesn't understand anything about route running. He will never make it as a wr. If he avoids being a bust it'll because someone uses him like Patterson as an rb/returner

So you're able to make these judgements on 15 routes ran? Not saying he will amount to anything but thats a pretty quick judgement

He ran a wheel route out of bounds in training camp which is incredibly dumb. I also watched him run a crossing route in his first game where he trailed directly behind an LB instead of getting depth and finding open space. It's pretty apparent why he's only run 15 routes. These are basics that someone should understand at this point of their football life.
