He ran a wheel route out of bounds in training camp which is incredibly dumb. I also watched him run a crossing route in his first game where he trailed directly behind an LB instead of getting depth and finding open space. It's pretty apparent why he's only run 15 routes. These are basics that someone should understand at this point of their football life.

Or you didn't like the pick when it was made and are ready to move on halfway through season 1

But reality is, its a very small sample size. Too early to tell

Sky Moore, Khalil Shakir, Wan'Dale Robinson are some WRs chosen before VJJ or just after (Shakir)

None have really contributed much. All have 1 TD including Velus

Okay. Good luck holding out hope for the guy that doesn't understand basic fundamentals, can't run a route, and can't catch downfield, to turn into a good wr.

I still like poles, but common sense tells me velus jones has roughly 0 chance of becoming a good nfl wr.

Also wandale and skyy haven't done much at wr but have still done significantly more than velus simply by being on the field when they are available.

When Poles drafted VJJ, I was envisioning him playing some RB, WR, and be dynamic in the return game. As a 25 year old rookie, the expectation is that he is more NFL ready than most rookies, but that’s simply not the case.

Sure, you can see how explosive he is when the ball is in his hands, but getting the ball in his hands is the problem. I don’t know if it’s nerves or what, but every time he touches the ball he bobbles or drops it.

Maybe an offseason and a healthy training camp will help turn his career around, but it’s not looking good.

Watson - 40 targets
Velus - 5 targets

Dont see the point of comparing a high 2nd round WR with a mid 3rd rounder. maybe a WR that was available when Velus was picked and the only one who did anything of note is probably Romeo Doubs
Why do you keep mentioning that he's a 2nd rounder? Weren't you one of the posters who kept talking about how 2nd round WRs don't make much of a difference? and that in no way could Poles overspend on a player to help Justin Fields?

My point was never to compare them statistically and you know that. 1670462579375.png

It was about you being quick to label a non-Bear as a bust early in the season but in Dec you think the jury is still out on a guy who has shown next to nothing. You've been doing this since they fired Pace and Nagy. Every move is the right move. Every move they didn't make that people complain about was the wrong move. All bears are hits if they contribute something and if they dont its too early to label them anything.

Seems like the only person who was fair game to criticize was Justin Fields. I guess Ryan Pace picks are fair game. All signs pointed towards Poles bringing in his handpicked QB, so of course we had to start shitting on Fields for not immediately producing. *shrug*

Idk bro some old fart named greg23 online said that Fields isn’t very good
I cant believe they rated a QB in the top 10 who is incapable of throwing for 200 yards and cant read the field or make progressions or whatever the white people are saying about brothas at QB.

TBH, has anyone minus Kmet and Mooney got quailty snaps? They spent so much of the season barely throwing the ball, so so kind of unsure what they have in some of these guys.

I mean, the need for one more great WR to get double teams and such is needed, but after them, Claypool and Mooney, the other WR depth for the next few years is probably already on the team.
Im pretty sure Pettis led them in snaps on Sunday and obv EQ got a ton of work. I dont expect Velus to come in and get as much run as any of them but i expect more than what hes gotten.

After Ebner got extended work like a month ago i was all for just using Velus as a RB because you have to find a way to get something out of him.

This is a fun thread. Lions, Panthers, Patriots, and Panthers fans among others wishing they had Fields.

?
Nothing is better than the Jets and Niners fans. They colossally fucked up. Scratch that, the best is the Bears fans who already gave up on him year 1 and now have to pretend he sucks for the rest of time. We shall not name them.

I don't get the burning desire on behalf of some to replace Braxton Jones. The kid has only improved a lot as the season went on, just like Fields.

Very limited sample size too so far but Leatherwood looked good at RT. How huge would it be for this team if you could pencil those guys in and maybe allocate your O-line resources to upgrading center (obviously) and maybe LG (cutting Whitehair)?

Most seem to be leaning towards keeping him. (Myself included)

I just posted Orlando Brown as he’s listed as a “top” free agent and he’s been discussed a bunch.

Not a fan of cutting Whitehair this year.
I wanted to cut Whitehair, but now, I’m like whatever. Whether he’s worth what he’s owed or not he isn’t terrible. **** it; let him have another go.

As far as Jones, I don’t fucking get it. He’s an average NFL LT as a 5th round rookie! **** yeah! He gets beat by power and the top dudes who make their money beating dudes. It’s like, yeah that guy gets paid, too!

If Learherwood also works out. We have even more of the 116 mil+ war chest to drop on DTs!

Yeah it really sucks Poles couldn't get every draft pick to contribute right away like virtually no GM ever does. Sucks he is not clairvoyant.
You know how it works, people take something like this topic, blow it out of proportion and if it comes to pass they are right, people will continue to talk about it ad nauseam, if it doesn't and the perception and subject changes it'll get forgotten about, until it goes wrong again.

That's how message board posting works.

How many yards does Fields need to break Lamar Jacksons single season record? He's close, right?

Edit:

Jackson owns the NFL record with 1,206 rushing yards in 2019. Jackson also had a 1,005-yard season in 2020, and Michael Vick had a 1,039-yard season in 2006. Those are the only 1,000-yard rushing seasons for a quarterback in NFL history.

Have to see if Getsy lets him attempt it.

Velus has almost no targets because he's been playing football his whole life and doesn't comprehend basics of football such as not running a wheel route out of bounds. He doesn't understand anything about route running. He will never make it as a wr. If he avoids being a bust it'll because someone uses him like Patterson as an rb/returner

If VJJ can become a top KR who gives you 1k combined receiving and rushing yards like Patterson did last year then that is a perfectly fine return on a 3rd round pick.

He is being used incorrectly right now IMO. Hopefully they will address after the bye especially if Herbert is still not back.
