And that’s exactly why I said “if Lovie is still there…” in my original comment

Lol

Yes and that is why I said even if he is I doubt the GM is going to draft players with Lovie in mind. He is a dead man walking. Just a question of whether he gets fired this year or next. Just like how Pace did not consult John Fox when drafting Trubisky.

Simple example. Lovie's D relies on zone CBs. The former Pats GM drafted a man CB whose NFL comp is literally former Pats lockdown CB Gilmore. You generally dont draft CBs that high for a Cover 2. DSJ is good enough to play Cover 2 but if they move more to a Pats type hybrid D then he will fit fine.

I thought that the Stingley pick was very odd. Seems like a poor fit in that defense or just an overqualified player.

Yeah it is pretty obvious Lovie is just a placeholder. They clearly wanted to hire McCown and my guess is the NFL told then to chill after the Flores lawsuit and so they scrambled to hire Lovie. The GM is drafting for the future HC.

if the lions are dumb enough to keep goff and pass on someone like stroud, levis or young then so be it...

Levis has played just OK. He’s a traits guy.

Young is a midget.

Stroud has his detractors.

I can see where a QB needy team may not be in love with these guys.

so if you're the texans, do you pass on a QB and select Anderson and have another dismal year in 2023 so that you can select Williams next year?

I don’t think a team should make a draft decision this year based upon a hypothetical pick next year.

I mean players get injured and regress.

Having another awful season is not guaranteed.

true but the Brwons were 1-15 in 2016 then followed that up by a 0-17 in 2017 so its not out of the question.
keep Lovie, stay the course and presto..

You can't play for one dude in next year's draft. The Texan have some talent on defense and a shit ton of high picks this year.

The chances they are bad enough to get the first pick aren't high enough to risk it imo.

That may have just been the Browns being the Browns though. I just don’t think you can PLAN for it.

i guess teams could wait until another luck or manning comes out if they have that kind of job security to be mediocre or poor till that time comes or ever comes...
young is not an ideal 6'3 or taller but its not like thats been a problem for wilson, murray, brees who are either shorter or at the same height not to mention guys like hurts and tua who are maybe 6'1? (i've seen hurts in person and doesnt look 6'1)

how many qb prospects didnt have detractors?...luck, peyton manning, i cant name anyone else...that was recent..
burrow and herbert both had their fair share of detractors did they not? burrow was basically average joe until his final year at LSU and then blew up...i would love to have had either guy as the bears qb.

all it takes is for one team to love a prospect...
