Indica strains need to be harvested milky with as few amber trichs as possible unless you want to be a vegetable. Sativa should be milky with about 30 percent amber. Harvesting while they are clear means they haven't reached their full maturity and word is if you harvest while clear you get a super intense awake high and a citrusy taste that is not very pleasant. I don't like that high myself as it can make the paranoia factor go off the charts. If you want to experiment pull a few colas off and use those to test with. If it was me I am not harvesting until the trichs are milky. Mine stink to high heaven as well. I am getting nasty looks from one of my neighbors who believes pot use turns you into a heroin addict and sends you to hell so I know mine are close. I am taking one down on Saturday and then waiting another week for the next one.

Maybe you can invite your neighbors over for some wine, truffles, and a trimming party:)

P.S. I am abandoning my Mighty Vape until they can figure out just what the hell is going on with people dying from vaping. Gonna go buy a regular ole pot pipe and use that.
If you were vaping dry flower you will have no health problems.

They are finding the health issue is related to oil cartridges that were being filled by illegal producers that weren't under scrutiny to produce it safely.

But really nice colas

This is approximately 1/4 of one plant. And I hope you have someplace to trim and dry @RacerX because the stink will drive you out of your house if you do it there. Good luck with 6 plants :p?;)

Looks awesome.

So this morning I checked trichomes, still mostly clear. Fast forward 5 hours later - partial crop failure. The tops of the most sun-exposed buds turned brown and dried-out/brittle.

WTF is happening and what should I do about it?

Please post some pics If you are talking about the leaves around the cola turning brown and brittle this is entirely normal. It simply means the cola no longer needs that leaf and it is fueling all of it's energy into producing THC.

Are the pictures below what you are seeing?

If it is truly bud rot you have to get rid of any of the colas that are exhibiting it. It will infest your entire crop if you don't. What would have caused this? Bud rot is usually caused by spider mites or other tiny insects or the colas are getting wet or the humidity is to high. You aren't watering the colas are you? Spread the cola apart and see if you smell any moldy smell.

Please post some pics of it so I can see what you are talking about. I do know that bud rot is barely detectable until it is to late. Lost an entire plant to spider mites and rot last year.

But the buds should not be dry and crusty if it is truly bud rot.

There is a God and she hates me. Just tossed out about 1.5 lbs. of the fattest buds....just days before harvest....****!!!!!

And they are totally dried out on the upper half of each cola, IDK what the problem is, I am disheartened. Tequila time.

Pics Pics Pics. The doctor can't tell what is wrong with your knee without Xrays. If your gardener was simply watering the base of the plants he could do it with a 100 gallons of water and it won't cause bud rot. People flush their plants right before harvest like that.

I trust your gardener is documented and here legally. :p

That should still leave you with over 3 pounds. I know you can use a camera. @number51 is waiting with bated breath to see exactly what is going on.

Me too.

The first shot looks like that might be bud rot. The last pics do not look that alarming. It is not unusual to have leaves that take on a red hue close to harvest. I am more interested in the fact that your colas suddenly dried out and turned brown in the space of 5 hours. I have never seen that before.

I do agree that the first pic looks like bud rot. The rest of the pics the one cola catches my attention as it appears totally brown and dead. But the ones at the top of the plant seem fine. That happened all within 5 hours?

Do not panic and begin throwing buds away without knowing exactly what is going on. Can you post some pics of the buds you have removed? Don't throw them away just yet. Quarantine them and let them dry.

Check for worms and spider mites. Check under the leaves for spider webs and make sure there are no worms tunneling up through the stalks.

This does not look like a good thing. The real expert in my family (my son) says it looks like worms. If it is you need to harvest immediately and check each and every cola for disease before keeping it. Better to save some than none.
