The media can put what they want.

I'm talking just us fans..

Since we're in Chicago.. Are we more focused on Epstein or the series?

I'd say almost all of us are following the Epstein story more than the series.

At the office of 150 people of which 90% are cub fans, no one is talking about the Cubs GM. Biggest talk is hatred that STL might win another title.

And of course, the Bears. Blackhawks, White Sox, and Bulls might not even exist if you judged it by the company's "water cooler chatter"

They're just jealous because STL has a better team. It happens.

OT Lament:

How I miss baseball. As a White Sox fan, I've had the past two months not to care seriously about it. I can't wait until February for Pitchers and Catchers to Report.

Looks like even if they hire Theo they're going to be poaching the Padres front office too.

Cubs using precedent. Red Sox think that th situation has no precedent (believing that it has never happened before.).

Not in the big city. He's right about people being more fixated on the new GM here.

Will Selig have to step in?

I really hope not.

I know its for my team but gosh I feel bad for Theo.. He doesn't wanna be there.. They've already named his replacement for the most part.

Take the fair offer and let the man move on with his life.

Epstein. I wont even watch the series until the games are do or die...if then. The place where I work only talks about Epstein coming. Not once has the Cardinals or the Rangers been mentioned.

It's kind of like in 05 when a lot of White Sox fans got bent out of shape because their WS wasn't a big deal on the north side.

Selig doesnt want to have to stand up to the Red Sox. He's in bed with ESPN just like they are.

Amazingly, it is possible to enjoy baseball on the tube one last time while checking out the Twitters

To each their own though. I'm not in a hurry because I think the Cubs are doing the smart thing by not caving in. At the end they might just cough up the nonsuspended-for-PEDs version of Matt Camp and a million dollars and they'll get Theo and everyone else because they were patient.

I do infact love how the cub fans think that there is no way theo can comeback, and that the cubs have all this leverage and should just say **** it and make the red sox sweat. do you honestly think the red sox care about that shit....i mean cmon now with all this fodder. if theo goes back to the red sox it wouldnt be the worst thing for them. oh and just because they promoted a new GM doesnt mean the cubs have all this leverage because of that too. The red sox can do what they want, they still have him under contract, and if they dont like the return.....they will hold on to him......dont forget the cubs are under a bit a pressure too since the WS is about to start and the offseason is around the corner wih no GM officially in place.

You do have a point that the Red Sox have some leverage, but it's probably not as much as you think. Unless it is literally a conspiracy theory to destroy the Cubs orchestrated by Theo Epstein, there's almost no way this deal falls through. For one, they would be screwing Ben Cherington, who would then have incentive to leave. For another, the Red Sox have not-so-subtly (not in words but in tone) thrown Theo under the bus, so at this point, unless Theo is a machine, he's going to feel like he's in a toxic work environment. Thirdly, if the Red Sox don't agree to a fair deal, Theo will stew for a bit, they'll pay him the $7MM, then he'll leave anyway and the Red Sox get nothing from the Cubs even though the Cubs farm system is full of shit. There's no pressure to do anything with respect to the World Series...there are off days, and even if not, I don't think any major transactions, especially of the free agent kind, can be made. For folks afraid that Theo won't have time to do his magic if they wait so long, you've got to wonder what kind of expectations they have for Theo when the supposed savior of your franchise can't multitask and learn about his new job before he takes it. Also, if he's almost certain to take the job as soon as the Cubs and Sox agree to compensation, don't you think they have a messenger ferrying certain information to Theo in the interim?

I guess we all have to wait and see, but I think the Cubs have done this right in waiting it out and the Red Sox position isn't all that strong.

Point goes to Rice Cube.

I would say it was several points. I haven't seen a beating like that since the Bournemouth Gynecologists played the Watford Long John Silver Impersonators.

Selig has no word in this and cannot step in. He can only say what he's been sayin', I hope this gets done sooner than later.
