Who is denying he could be right? I think we're all aware he's undercontract. But his sole focus on this is way oversimplified when you consider what it will be like to have him as a GM when he doesn't want to be there for an entire year. Would they trust him? Could they trust him? How much worse is the tension going to be between he and Lucchino now that he has one foot out the door? Whats stopping him from telling Lucchino to **** off?
Again, we all know he's still under contract with the Red Sox. And...?

Even if Theo goes back, he'll just be sitting at home collecting his millions until he can "officially" take over the Cubs. They would look like monumental douches to the entire MLB community if they hold their former golden child hostage over a couple prospects.
I think fans need to understand that Theo, in all likelihood, won't be the GM. If that were the case, he would've probably stayed in Boston. He will be Team President. There's been talk that Jed Hoyer will be his top choice for GM. Anyway, I'm pretty confident this thing will be settled after the WS.

The problem is that they'd have to potentially pay compensation to both the Red Sox and the Padres. I guess Ricketts figures the farm system sucks so much anyway that they might as well go balls out :lol:

Wait, so if Theo somehow remains with the Red Sox or his couch next season, the Cubs are going to go a whole season with an interm??? That crazy idea certainly fits the Cubs but even the Cubs aren't that crazy.

The prevailing conspiracy theory appears to suggest that Theo will take the helm as the President and whether he comes soon or next year, they'll hire a permanent GM that will work the strings under Theo's supervision.

Yes, that's my understanding. If Hoyer comes, Byrnes will be GM for the Padres. Or Byrnes will come and that's that.
