No, I feel that many are looking to copy Philly but as you can see it's not an equal share of playing time between their DTs...

So the Bears will be hard pressed to get Dexter the amount of snaps at 3T that he needs to continue to develop, if they bring in another 3T that cuts into his playtime.

Jarrett is also a 3T that is being highly paid, he's not here to only play 30-40% of the snaps.

I think using #10 on any rookie that isnt a day 1 starter that's getting the majority of the snaps is poor use of draft capital.
Nolen would get the most snaps because he'd be the best DT on the roster, unless prime Grady Jarrett returns this year.

Billings is likely gone after this year and Jarret is gone after 26. So developing a DT at 10 (or at 39/later) is definitely in the plaan
#10 is for day 1 starters, they should be looking for impact players there. 2nd/3rd round and later is for depth and development.

I kinda wonder if Billings is a sneaky cut candidate this year. Dexter and Jarrett are locks. They committed 3 mil to Williams. Depending upon how the draft goes I could see him being released or traded down the road.

Would be extremely surprised if they released Billings. He’s too valuable against the run and was actually starting to show some pass rush last year before he got hurt

This is the part of the draft process that always baffles me. You’re saying a GM picking a man at 10 is wrong because a media member has that person ranked at 24?

If the GM pick them at 10, that means the GM has them ranked higher. But because we read the media members’ countless mock drafts somehow they are the experts and the GM’s are not?

Make that make sense!
As a sidebar to everything, I think people do forget that the draft in the shoes of a media member is fairly random. If you're the Bears, you have a very set criteria to develop a board specific to your team. They have entirely different methodologies, even nuances in the language. They more so talk in language of "immediate starter"... "future starter"... "future all pro" vs language like "3rd round pick".

But, if you're Jeremiah making a board, you're doing so in a way that's as generic as possible cause it's theoretically for any team to use. It's not real world though. Also, any big board can't see where a guy goes. Like take Bo Nix... if he landed on the Raiders last year, I'd say he probably would've sucked really bad and his career may reflect that. But he ends up with Payton and looks great. You can argue things like this happened to Geno Smith, Darnold, Baker, etc... luckily they broke through, but a lot don't.

So maybe, there's a gem of a player sitting there that becomes a bust cause he's simply picked to the wrong team at the wrong time. It would take super super special players to transcend all the factors out of their control. This year, it could be something like Sanders vs. Dart. Imagine Sanders goes to the Saints and Dart goes to the Rams. Who will be better? Now reverse teams... who will be better? I think we all agree the guy on the Rams is probably better.

You need to remember we have a new DC too. From what I have read both DT’s are expected to get some pass rush.
You may be right, but a 5 win team shouldn't be more worried about depth in round one than findng immediate starters.

Even the players are already talking about being in win now mode.

Walter nolen isn't depth. He's an immediate impact pass rusher on the interior that would garner the majority of the snaps.

Anyone they draft at #10 is likely playing a good chunk of snaps.

If they are taking will campbell at #10 its that they believe he could be the starter at LT this year. Anyone on the dline they draft at #10 would be playing a good chunk of snaps. They legit have no depth at DE right now unless you think booker is going to take a massive leap in year 2.

So we cant use it on trenches but we can use it on a tight end who will be at best the 3rd option and likely a backup?

The bears have a lot of good young players at many positions.

You dont replace developing players you just drafted a few years ago. Only morons dont understand it takes time to develop draft picks.

Dexter is certainly one of those players. He has a very high upside, most DT's take 3-4 years to breakout.

So this is the year we can expect Pickens to become a valuable member of the rotation?

What about a position where a new starter will be needed next year like LT? In a perfect world, the current LT should be the swing tackle. So what if it takes a half season for that transition. They win in the long run.

This team is not ready for the big dance in '25. They need to look to the future. Heck, a good GM is always looking to the future. That is sustainability vs one and done.

Fact: The Bears finished 5-12.
Fact: The Bears had no Pro Bowlers in 2024.
CCS: “The Bears have zero star players.”
Also CCS*: “ We cannot draft someone who plays <insert position here> because we already have a starter at that position and if we draft someone, the starter would play fewer snaps.“

Spoiler alert: The goal in the off-season, especially for a team that finished 5-12, is to make moves that result in some starters playing fewer snaps.

That is how you get better.

*Some on CCS. Certainly not all.
There are very few jobs on this team that should be considered to be safe and not worthy of competition.

It's apples to oranges, but look at those Giants championship teams. In 2007, they drafted Mathias Kiwanuka in the first round with Strahan, Osi, and Tuck on the roster. In 2010, they took Pierre-Paul in the first round in with Tuck, Osi, and Kiwanuka on the roster. They won the SB in the 2007 season and the 2011 season. Everyone would otherwise think it's pretty nuts to need 4 DEs, but those defensive lines were the foundation to something special there.
