My god why don't you get the point. We aren't saying Ramirez is as good as these players. In fact we are purposely picking players who are better to show how even the great ones can have bad postseasons. What is so hard to understand about this?

Forgive me for my confusion when you mention a player, and how you've adamently defended Ramirez, one could mistake this quote when reading it
But postseason>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>regular season games as you said. I am just trying to understand the logic here. Winfield is the epitome of what I am talking about here with Ramirez. A great player, hell he was deservedly a Hall of Famer. he got to play 26 games in the postseason and he was terrible. Does that mean we wouldn't have wanted him on the Cubs in his prime?

Or maybe it's that you can't read. He clearly used proper punctuation and the word was.

And you post a thread about it after only reading that post once? Wow.

I know what Dabynsky is trying to say. comparing good ball players and having bad post seasons, but the post with winfield can be misleading. just sayin

Keep reading the quote. The sentence goes on to say a player that played 26 postseason games. That would be Hall of Famer Dave Winfield who has played 26 postseason games. Ramirez has only played 18 which means he wasn't the person I was talking about in that quote.

Believe me, no one does.

I wouldn't be to sure on that. I debated with three people on another site about this. There was almost no convincing them that he wasn't HoF caliber... something about "He could still hit 400 HR." Despite the fact that I can think of at least 2 3B that have been better than him during his entire career... and a few others that were better than him during portions of it.

You don't get constantly overshadowed at 3B for your entire career by 2 players... and make it to the HoF.

Sorry I got better things than to read posts twice or 3 times.

Forgive me please

For how adamant you've been in defending Rammy, I made the mistake of assuming you thought so. I apologize for that.

I apologize for beating the Rammy horse into the ground. I'll let my feelings know that I don't like Rammy, and that's fine.

Off-topic but I do feel the need to applaud dabs for not stooping to insults. He always seems to keep a cool head and debate the topic at hand with knowledge and by backing up his argument instead of pulling out the name-calling. So .

CO can put the Wainwright pipe dream to rest for good.

The Cardinals announced Thursday night that they will pick up Adam Wainwright's two-year, $21 million option, barring something unforeseen in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Wainwright wasn't going anywhere, but there was a chance the Cards would negotiate a longer deal with him. However, given that he's currently coming back from surgery, the most prudent thing -- probably for both sides -- was to just exercise the option. He recently received clearance to throw from 120 feet on flat ground and is also able to lift 60-pound weights. "To date he has had a very, very good rehab. I'm knocking on wood as we speak," GM John Mozeliak said. Wainwright is expect to be 100 percent heading into spring training.

Couple things.

1. Regular season>>> playoffs. Why? If you don't win in the regular season the playoffs don't matter. Now some of you will say (oh also imagine me saying this sounding like you missing a chromosome or two) "but po that means you don't care about the playoffs and the regular season is all you care about blah blah blah."

No. I'm simply saying as a whole the regular season is much more important. Now no single game in the regular season is as important as any in the playoffs (aside from a you lose you are done type scenario).

Also on Aramis being a hall of famer probably not at least not yet. He's 33 and will probably get to 400-450 home runs, not being linked to steroids also helps as that means Arod probably doesnt make it.

I don't think he makes it but a lot of you act like the shot is 0% and I think it's probably more in the 15-20% range.

Finally one important thing to remember is that great players/teams have bad games/series. And awful players/teams have great games/series.

I mean for fucks sake David Eckstein won a WS MVP.

It seems like some people just value 07-08 because we were great in the regular season. It seems like most people here want a WS title, but I'm not sure :dunno:

I'll see your David Ekstein MVP and raise you an Edgar Renteria.

Well 07 and 08 are very different.

07 wasn't a great year and I didn't expect much.

08 on the other was a great team and just didn't win the ultimate prize

Had the 03 team finished off the marlins and then won the WS would it have been a better team than the 08 team?

Great teams have not won the WS and bad teams have won the WS.

This doesn't mean I wasnt upset in 08. I mean I am sure others were just like me and were devastated because well I thought it was the year. I thought the stars were going to align and we were set but it didn't work out and that was the roughest time as a sports fan I can ever remember. Way harder than 07 way harder than losing the super bowl. Probably overs harder than 03.

That doesn't mean I can't look back and remember how great of a year it was. As much as you or some other may say it was a failure I disagree because man that was a fun ass season. A season I will NEVER forget.

Yeah, with MLB it's much harder to make the playoffs and obviously you have to make the playoffs before you're allowed to win a World Series. I'd give a ton to see more teams like the one in 2008 because that means they'd always get to the playoffs and they'd increase their chances of winning the World Series.

You look at the Braves and they won something like five pennants in 14 trips to the postseason, winning one championship. But the fact is that they had 14 shots to do it. The Cubs had 4 chances in that same span. You need more teams like 2008 to get that chance. And that's why we should be excited whenever a situation like 2008 comes along.

That was fun, and it was a good season.

The problem I have is that some posters seem to have not wanted the title.
