I dont think we have any good free agents coming our way this off season. Tom Ricketts has done nothing but talk about drafting, and developing talent from within at the minor league level.

Please check out my story on Ryne Sandberg and the Cubs Managerial position and comment with your thoughts, thank you!

So you think the Cubs are going to sign Sandberg to be our rebuilding manager? Seems like they had that option... like a year ago... weird.

I'll bite, I believe Jim Hendry made the decision to keep Quade.

It doesn't have to do with Jim Hendry. I think we can all agree that no matter who managed this team, they would have sucked. We are going to suck again, if we don't bring in at least one FA. He said he doesn't think we will. I don't see why we are going to bring Sandberg back with this exact same team. That doesn't make sense. Plus, why are we going to bring Ramirez back and not add anything else. That is a waste of money.

Because Sandberg will put people in the seats.

Hendry probably did Sandberg a favor by not hiring him. Also, if you go to a baseball game to see the manager, your priorities are totally misplaced

The focus that some here and in the media have been placing on manager or the effort of certain players is wasted time that distracts from the real problem of this organization, which is lack of talent. The Cubs need to fix that first and foremost before anyone should waste time worrying who is filling out the lineup card.

Sure. But people hating Sandberg = not so good.
I don't believe people would sour on Sandberg based solely off of what he did as a player for the Cubs.

Bullshit. If we lose and lose and lose, then people are going to get pissed. Plain and simple.

The smart people will look at the personnel before blaming the manager. In most cases, the manager is a scapegoat for the front office's mistakes.

Right, so that's why we're saying it's not all Quade's fault

The Cubs are stuck with good money turned bad, and I don't think any manager could have made the Cubs a playoff team.

Agreed. That said, i hated the Quade hiring then, and i hate it now. But, it is what it is, we would have been losing early and often with any other manager like you said.

Until this team has an actual pitching staff, I find it hard to care about who is the manager.

Here is where we ought to be talking about Fielder, Byrd, Jackson, Buehrle, etc.

I will continue to argue that Wilson is the best pitcher on the market until CC opts out, and that I want the Cubs to be aggressive in acquiring top end talent. The Cubs are actually doing a good job of developing role players and relievers. The focus in the offseason needs to be acquiring the high end guys that the system isn't producing right now.

I don't know. My guess is if he is opting out that he wants to be paid the most of any pitcher. That wouldn't take a huge raise, but I've got imagine his starting point would at least be the deal Lee got this past offseason.
