If the Sox don't re-sign Buehrle, getting Mark and CJ Wilson would be a great boost to the rotation.

Wilson
Buehrle
Garza
Dempster
Cashner

Wow. That may be a pipe dream for the Cubs, but the rotation would be sick.

Yes that would be a great rotation for the Cubs. I doubt they can make it happen, but getting one of those two is essential if this team wants any shot next season. As I have been trying to argue for a while now, the focus shouldn't be on getting a bunch of average to slightly above average guys. It needs to be on acquiring impact talent.

Agreed. I don't know how much Ricketts and the new GM will be willing or wanting to spend, but one of these guys or another top-tier FA pitcher is essential.

Couple of twitter feeds saying how Ricketts wants to keep GM search so hush, hush, that he doesnt want anyone to know until he introduces him in press conference. Why is Ricketts so damn worried about media?

CJ Wilson Doesn’t Sound Too Interested in Coming to Chicago and Other Bullets | Bleacher Nation | Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Commentary

CJ Wilson, who will face Justin Verlander this weekend in a hell of great ALCS Game One matchup, may be the top free agent pitcher on the market this Winter. Knowing that the Cubs are expected to be looking for pitching, Wilson was asked whether he’d consider coming to Chicago. His response wasn’t exactly positive. Could he see himself wearing a Cubs’ jersey at Wrigley Field? “I’ve never even been there,” he said flatly. So how will he evaluate a team’s offer? ‘‘Gun laws, day games, weather, competitiveness, freedom to be myself.” When asked if that was three strikes against the Cubs, he said, “I’m just saying, that’s how I decide.” Ok. It’s still early, but, he may not be an option even if the Cubs want him.

Garza would most definitely be over Buerhle, hell one could make the argument that he could be above C.J. but I may get bashed for having that opinion.....

I think Garza could be our No. 1. Garza was good this season. His numbers are flawed.

severely flawed due to atrocious defense and lack of run support......

I think Garza could be number 1 guy. I would LOVE to get a ACE but if they can fill 2 SP spots with qualitity guys like Buerhle, Jackson, ETC then Garza number 1 ok with me. Guy had 2.3 ERA in 2nd halve

Yeah Garza was pretty much awesome except a few outings he got shelled. But if he had 3-4 runs in support he could easily have been an 18-19 game winner this year.

CJ had 2 good seasons which is better then the usual Cubs signings when they sign a max contract after 1 good year. Hes 30 which is a decent age and hes a lefty. I wouldnt mind it but the money is always an issue. Sometimes you have to risk it though

What is the alternative to CJ Wilson though? Buerhle is going to command a pretty high salary to head anywhere but St. Louis or stay on the south side, and he is older than CJ Wilson with a ton more innings thrown. Does anyone really think Edwin Jackson is a better option? Internally we have Garza, Dempster, Randy Wells, Andrew Cashner, Casey Coleman, Jay Jackson, and Trey McNutt. Does anyone really feel comfortable counting on those names to fill out a rotation?

I don't think we land CJ Wilson given his list of priorities, but we will see I guess.

Wilson isn't an option from everything I've seen. Anytime the Cubs have been brought up, he's been really nonchalant about the possibility. Here's an excerpt from a recent conversation with him.
