Andrew Cashner's first seven fastballs: 98, 97, 96, 99, 99, 98, 100. Damn

What about Paul Maholm? The Pirates are going to decline his option and he hasn't had bad stats. A cheaper option and I think he would be a nice pick-up.
4 years at 25-35 million or something.
Why sign a guy to be a 4th starter when every starter that is coming up through the system projects as at best a 3rd starter (exculding Kerry Wood redux)? We have backend of the rotation, innings eaters types that are ready or close to being ready. We need to get out of this mindset of overspending to get slightly better production, and need to focus on buying premium talent (should read top of the rotation pitching and power hitting) that the system isn't going to produce for at least 3 or 4 years.
1) Chicago Cubs
With Theo Epstein taking the reigns in Chicago (eventually it will become official) you know the team is going to be looking to make an impact. A lot of the rumors are that they will make a major bid for Pujols, though I think Epstein’s presence could alter that line of thinking.
It’s not that Pujols is not currently the better player, but he’s already 31-years old (he’ll be 32 before the start of the 2012 season). Sooner or later you have to think that he is going to start to regress. Just look at Alex Rodriguez as one example.
Would you want to give him a seven or eight year contract and risk paying him over $20+ million when he is in his 38 or 39-year old seasons? That’s not to say that Fielder doesn’t have his own risks (like his weight), but I could easily see the Cubs instead focusing on the younger player who could perform throughout the length of his contract.
With new owners and a new regime at the top, the Cubs will likely be in position to make some moves.
I want Pujols. Prince wasn't very impressive in the playoffs and his weight is a concern for me. I feel like he could be the next Mo Vaughn.
Pujols is a machine.
Get me Colby Lewis because he is an ace in the postseason! Nevermind that he is mediocre at best any other time and is just as likely to play at those levels than the ridiculous numbers he has put up in the postseason.
David Wright likely to be shopped:
What do you think it'll take?
I'll take a stab...Josh Vitters, Trey McNutt, Jeff Samardzija, Ryan Flaherty, Nelson Perez and Castillo or Clevenger for Wright, prospect and/or cash.
What do you guys think, too much or too less?
Maybe the Cubs could steal Bobby Parnell from them.
