Going through his 3rd offseason now. How many you guys give him?

One more...at least as far as i'm concerned. The dude was saddled w/ some pretty piss-terrible contracts that were OK'd before he got here (Z, Soriano, Dempster, etc.) We gotta get some of these contracts off the books before we can start rebuilding. The Yankees are the only team in baseball who can survive w/ 3+ awful contracts b/c they can outspend their mistakes (kind of...1 WS and 2 appearances in the last 10 years)...

Fielder more then 1 dimesional. His OBP, SLG, RBI, HR, AVG among best in last 5 years. Just hitting his prime. I'm not saying this guy makes Cubs conteder overnight but does get them great building block.

He's one-dimensional because he's a talented offensive player but sucks at defense and baserunning. I'm sure there are ways to work around that, but if the Cubs don't plan to contend or if Boras is looking for a dumb owner to spend stupid money, it's not going to happen. And that's okay with me.

That's not reflective of bad ownership; they still need to spend their money wisely within the scope of the master plan. The master plan may not be fun for us fans in the short term, but going 90% rebuild/10% contend is probably better in the long run than doing the half-ass plan.

Yeah, I'd like Prince Fielder to be a Cub too, but the guys in charge have more of a handle on the franchise and the master plan than we do. So that's why I'm waiting it out. They are working on the "get out from under bad contracts" part now and I'm sure they can concurrently work on the "build farm system" part before diverting more resources into "spend out the nose to appease fans" part.

I'm not saying I think the Cubs will land Fielder but I've been following Theo for years in Boston. Sveum saying they haven't contacted Fielder means jack. Theo and Co is the most tight lipped FO I've ever been around. Hell, before the Crawfrd signing most of the information "leaking out" was that Boston wasn't interested...Then boom...he signs.

I can use exclmation points too!!

Your line of thought is Special person. Someone who is "cheap" doesn't buy an ML franchise like the Cubs...especially with the ridiculous contracts they had on the books when he bought the team.. The same "cheap" owner doesn't start talking about half a billion dollars worth of renovations to the field and surrounding areas. The same "cheap" owner doesn't make the Theo move and make him one of, if not the highest paid GM/President in league history.

Payroll should be cut you artard.

The contracts the Cubs had and have on the books are god awful. Before Ricketts bought the team the Cubs were tinkering with "dumping" salary like Soriano, etc in order to make moves for better players. The Cubs just can't add payroll for the hell of it. Rickett's needs to clean out bad payroll and rebuild with good payroll. I don't understand how baseball Special person people like yourself think Ricketts would just come in and spending would skyrocket. It doesn't work that way. Rickett's has been damn smart with his money and will continue to do so. Especially with a guy like Theo at the helm.

Why should Ricketts have increased spending with Hendry as GM? If you were Ricketts would you have trusted Jim Hendry to spend money? Would you?!

Jesus Christ.

But yeah, let's ***** about a declining payroll or 3 million going from Dempster to Nady when the owner wants to spend a quarter of a billion dollars upgrading Wrigley.

SRS?

I don't care about building up Wrigley, or around it. I care about 1 thing World Series

Prince would be an above avg. base-runner on this team. Does that count as being multidimensional?

Gotta consistently get to the playoffs first. One step at a time.

Revenue streams would definitely help with that plan though. So building up Wrigley or blowing it up and building a new one is definitely something we should care about.

Yeah I love the mindset that everyone got fucking pumped when Theo came to town because he was so brilliant..then immedietly start questioning him or thinking he's stupid for not throwing tons of cash at Fielder. So is Theo dumb or smart? Let the man work.

Fucking stupid fickle Chicago fans.

ZOMG we got Theo! He's so smart!

ZOMG he's not spendin da moniez on Fielder! He'z so stupid and the Cubz r cheapz!

Cardinals fans weren't pissed(for the most part) when they Pujols left for an abusrd amount of money. You know why? Because they have a tremendous organization...and are smart. Which is what the Cubs are trying to build towards.

Would I like Fielder to become a Cub? Sure. Why not. Will I lose sleep over it if he doesn't?

No. I know how Theo works and what he's capable of.

:obama:

And there's more than one way to build to that.

But thanks for ignoring everything else that kicked your tired bullshit argument around.

Thanks.

Yeah Rickett's is dumb/cheap for preventing Jim Hendry from spending money...........which is why everyone hated Jim Hendry to begin with...because he didn't know how to spend money to begin with.

:obama: at Chicago fans.

I wouldn't trust Hendry with $5 let alone $120 million.

He doesn't want the Sox shown up.

It is obvious you have the complex since your arguement is always about the "sox". Personally since I cannot stand the cubs I would prefer the cubs to sign fielder. Why? Because it will be just another bad contract on the books. So of course I would want them to sign fielder for just that purpose.

You also have to figure that even the smartest GMs will do some dumb shit. Comes with the territory. If Theo is right even 55% of the time, we should be happy  World Series won't happen overnight...I don't think the Cubs are going to do the Tampa Bay/Florida reload plan, nor will they use the Giants' "luck into good pitching in the draft and some hot performances" plan in 2010. If they want to be like Boston, they need to build up the revenue streams, they have to build that farm through smart drafts and signings, and then they can do the playoffs every year thing with free agency helping them plug holes. That's always been what I perceived the plan to be.

If they sign Prince Fielder, yay! If not, it's actually understandable.

How would we continue to lose more and more? We'd be signing a superstar. That brings fans to the park and it betters the team.

great you signing a superstar with a pile of shit surrounding him, how does that make your team better.

So Fielder replaces Penas numbers
you lost Aramis Ramirezs' numbers and are replaced with Ian Stewart

here is what you have around a possible Fielder

dejesus
stewart
castro
barney
byrd
soriano
soto

thats if no other deals are made. how are you a good team? 1 superstar bat doesnt make your team a division contender let alone a ws push.

.

Bingo.

The new draft rules will make it interesting to see if they can do the same thigngs they did in Boston but they are smart enough to adapt.

This Dale Sveum talk of not talking to Fielder smells of a smoke screen and how could this guy have not spoken to one of the players he is closest to in MLB. From everything I have read he and Fielder are like family at the ball park.

I think something is happening with Fielder sooner rather than later there is a lot of smoke, which to me always means there is some fire.

So let's rip the GM who got Cubs to playoffs 3 times in 7 years. No other Cub GM could say that sine 1908. With Hendry atleast I felt like team could contend. Does anyone think this team will contend now or even in next 3 years? I don't. I understand what they doing but asking fans to be patient while they get shit players is a joke. Either spend like Big Market or go young. Signing DeJusus, trading for 3B who couldn't hit his weight at Coors, does nothing. Play the kids over these piece of shit moves.

Haha Dews I <3 you.

No but seriously I never even say Sox unless you come in here and just say everything bad is gonna happen to the Cubs.
