from what i remember mcphee was a very different situation, mcphee was never a starter for the ravens when pace signed him and his body just didnt hold up after that first full year...ogunjobi has been a starter year in and year out and just unfortunately suffered that foot injury in the playoffs and just didnt heal in time when the bears came calling.
Could be right it was a long time ago. Similarities though with desperate position upgrade in free agency and injury is there. Anyone remember if McPhee knew was a thing before coming to bears?

Running at the side of any player's knee is threatening to their career and livelihood. It's dirty.
Nah, it's a simple cut block on a player who is not engaged. Youth football players are taught how to defend it.

That's a shame. Are cut blocks of any kind allowed today?
You're able to cut block under a few conditions:
1. You originally lined up in the free blocking zone (4'x3' on either side of the ball)
2. The person you're going to cut block was lined up in the free blocking zone.
3. The ball is still in the free blocking zone.
4. If in shotgun, the cut block has to be immediate with the snap. If there is even a slight pause, they want us throwing the flag.

EDIT: When I originally started refereeing, a chop block was the combo of a high block then a low block. Now there is no distinction of what order the blocks come.

So basically lineman can cut lineman and on pass plays only right after the snap.

Pretty much. They are really trying to keep their knees healthy. When I was poorly attempting to try out for the NCAA they were in the middle of reworking their blocks below the waist rules. From what I understand a Big10 coach who may or may not have a Greek Warrior as a mascot just wanted them to get rid of all blocks below the waist because of the confusion.

Why I think this block last night was dirty is that it's a preseason game. Not illegal, but ugly and unnecessary.

It's interesting I just don't remember a high incidence of bad knee injuries from chop blocks - even when they were allowed anywhere. Maybe that's my memory.

I can see that second point, although it's tough for me to distinguish dirty from illegal no matter the meaningfulness of the game.

Oh no, one of the posters who constantly gets mocked for not actually knowing anything about football is threatening to leave. Please don't go, we need you to tell us the opposite of reality while you pretend to have those who mock you on ignore. PLEASE STAY TO OWN THE HATERS!

If you do stay, please remember to keep it on topic in this thread. There was zero reason to openly trash CCS to its great owner @Rush, someone who i've had a great working relationship with for 12 years since he hand picked me to post on CCS. You could have DMd the mods to cry about @dabears70 getting a rightful 3 day ban and he's lucky that's all it was being that this is strike 5000 for him.

We know you have a tough time at doing this but please try to talk football. Thank you.

This went too far. Like I said, don't engage, report and move on. 3 days.

There was no reason for it. No competitive advantage. Actually given the context of preseason, it would have been beneficial for the TE to actually engage the defender.

I really hope I’m wrong about him only being a good in line TE. I just don’t see him as a move weapon. The way I see him working is exactly like they did on the screen, he appears to block and then turns for the screen after the LB has moved off of him.

I see his strength as an in-line blocker being what allows him to get open and make catches. I don’t see him being able to create like Pitts or Kelsey. I see him being very good this year, but not as a U, only if they use him as a good blocking Y and get him the all off of screens, misdirection, and come backs on the scrambles.
Kind of interesting that Jesper Horsted was targeted 3 times and led the LV Raiders with 3 receptions for 53 yards yesterday. He seemed to be a skilled receiver and we sure need receivers. Why did we let him go?

I'm still not happy about it.

Yup, don't understand that one Mr. Poles. He came in and seemed hell-bent on turning over the entire roster. Jesper balls out when given an opportunity.

And now who do we have backing up Kmet? Ryan Griffin, James O'shaugnhessy and Chase Allen. I'd love to see someone try and convince me that these players are better and/or have more upside than Jesper.

I would've liked it if we could've held onto Horsted. All he did was catch touchdowns(different than David Terrell's claim).

In the limited amount of reps I like what that Tonges kid has done.

I like James Daniels and wanted him resigned at the right price. I would rather have him at C than Mustipher, or competing for a spot at guard whether left/right. I still it was a mistake.

But Patrick is the C so you going to pay Daniels 8.8m to be a backup C? Then at RG, what happens if Jenkins beats him out at RG? then you going to be paying him 8.8m and Whitehair 12m for one of them to sit on the bench.
