Completely missing the point.

It has nothing to do with “giving up on Fields”. It has everything do to with the importance of the position and availability. If you’re on the draft board and a truly elite QB prospect is there AND you’re not 100% sure you have a top 5 QB you need to take the guy and sort it out later.

How is it that Bears fans in the year 2022 after decades of being god awful at the position still don’t understand it’s importance?

You don’t get many chances to draft these elite QB’s. You can go a decade at a time and not get another chance. When its there you take it and sort the rest out later.
As much of a Fields fan as I am, I don't disagree with this take. Thankfully, the draft isn't until after the season, so we get an entire season(fingers crossed) of Fields with this new offense to evaluate where he's at.

If he has made huge strides and is looking like he's the guy, you draft a WR. If there are still big question marks, and Poles' QB is there, you take that guy.

I'd much rather we get the best WR in the draft and pair him with Fields, but if Fields isn't trending upwards big time by the end of the season, you have to think about that position and consider drafting another QB. We have to get the QB position right or we won't compete. This is how the NFL works now.

RG3 and Cousins a good example of that. You just never know.. take a shot at another QB if you can. Trade the odd man out. I totally agree

Yep, simple.

And obviously we hope Fields is the guy.

OK so you agree if he plays awful then it makes sense?

What if he plays average and the Bear's have the #1 pick? What if there's a Burrow, Manning or a Luck sitting there? Ya good?
If he plays average to good and there’s a Manning sitting there when we pick, trade the **** back! Jump like ducking Frogger! Run that shit for 3 1st rounders and a bucketload of other 2nd rounders and shit, and get me the best fucking WR or 3 tech in the whole goddamn motherfucking draft.

Shit! I’ll take average on the second year! **** yeah! What’s that mean for 3rd? Let’s build this shit around him and see.

If he’s as good as I think he is, and we still get a qb falling in our laps. **** yeah.

What constitutes as average to you? Nobody in this draft looks like either of those QBs btw and I doubt the bears ever get the #1 pick. Why weren’t you this vocal with Mitch as QB? Why are you against drafting a WR or something to help the bears QB on the roster right now?

I’m good, you good?

Except both QBs aren’t on the Commanders and they both are average. Also Cousins was a 5th round pick

How do you even know what Fields is? So far you seem to have already written him off

And my point is average in the second year is an upward arc from the first, a rising trajectory. So, looks like what he did last year under Nagy, to average with what we have, bodes a clear upward trajectory. Let the jaguars or Texans draft the next Manning and burn him like they’re doing with the golden boy and whatever the **** his name is out of Stanford.

Build a real team around Fields. If he shows progress, even better. If he’s not the guy, and we got a shit ton of picks from trading back, use the capital to get a dude when we have a team, either drafting or trade.

A. No one is going to trade you a legit NFL QB.
B. So trade the QB to get picks, and use the picks to draft another QB?
