Pretty sad if that’s true about Jenkins. That dude has proved nothing and feels like he’s owed everything. Get on the phone Poles and start making calls

Pretty damn surprising… if they do think he is the most talented, then figure that shit out before another team does.

Speculation leaves me to guess the new staff projects Jenkins best as a guard and Jenkins wants an opportunity to play tackle. He probably hasn't responded in the best way and isn't taking a demotion well.

But if the staff really feels like he is very talented they need to find a way to get him in the starting 5. Try to send the message now. Sign some veterans and put some pressure on him. But you can't just let him sit out for much longer..need to get our starting 5 set

The problem with that strategy is immature players don’t act kindly to competition being brought in. If this speculation is true, he might think he is a 2nd round pick so he deserves the spot based on draft position. Even if he is the most talented olinemen, do they really want him around?

Regardless of the issues, the simple fact is he was a product of a Ryan Pace trade up which means he's(probably) a bum. I'm hoping Fields is the exception that proves the rule.

This is horrible news if the kid has maturity issues and already doesn't get along with any of this new coaching staff. We'll have to ship him out to a team with a respected HC that will take on someone like him and get swindled on the return. BB or A.Reid.

why do they HAVE to trade him to a team with a respected head coach? does he have a no trade clause?

Heard him on the Score with Grote and Spiegel. Sounded like he has zero faith in Fields being the guy.
This guy is not impartial. For whatever reason, he always goes after Fields. For every “fake” compliment he gives him, he almost always takes it away by going after the guy. He has been doing that for a while now.

For as level headed and good natured as Fields can be, as we all know, the guy can shoot daggers with his eyes. And from what I have seen of Fields, he is a very perceptive guy. When he knows a media member is asking a dumb question, he is ok with it. But a dumb question coupled with bad intent?? … Fields does not hide that well. That said, I noticed some pretty icy exchanges between Fields and this reporter towards the end of the season last year… and it appears this reporter has not gotten over it.

One of the dumb questions that I can recall off hand was “why did you throw it to Cole Kmet right there at the end zone” —- and Fields looked puzzled as to why he would ask that and said, “because I thought I could fit it in that window and score the touchdown”.

It was a good pass. Some might even call it a “great” pass. He was throwing the guy open. Cole simply did not move — AT - ALL. It was totally catchable and thrown to the ONLY open spot, all Cole had to do was step left/TD. Instead the ball sails chest high through the end zone.

But this exchange was ICY. Ice block icy. North Pole icy. Because Fields knew: a) the question was dumb, and b) that the guy asking the question was nit picking and searching for trouble, i.e. the guy had “bad intent”.

These guys have never been the same. Fields does not trust this reporter and this reporter does not like Fields. Read what this reporter writes and listen to what he says through that prism and then everything he says and does (with respect to Fields) will all make sense.

Solid reporter. Good writing style. Super negative guy by nature. A guy that holds grudges. That’s Wiederer.

This sounds the most likely. I think the staff is impressed with Larry Borom, are ready to make him the starting RT. He looks swift in training camp videos, he's a hard worker. Meanwhile Jenkins has all this skepticism from the fanbase and team seemingly, but you can't say the guy hasn't bought in. He lost 10% body fat, he took the move to RT in stride. If the staff suggested guard I could see him getting upset. Which to me isn't so much immaturity, but pride and frustration. Maybe the sitting out of camp is a streak of immaturity, but understandable. This coincides not long after the signing of Riley Reiff. Suffice to say, there's not really been a point at which the team has made a strong commitment to Jenkins

This is actually encouraging to think it's a fit and "immaturity" issue rather than some lingering back thing. Maybe this relationship is salvageable, and he shows he is determined to prove himself if he gets a crack. I would hope so, because I think throwing away o-line talent with our current situation would be a bad move, and we need to be as efficient with the talent we have as possible.

I still think the real bummer is Lucas Patrick, who was oddly one of the bigger free agency "splashes" Poles made. The idea of Doug Kramer playing center... feels like a serious downgrade for a guy who probably needs a lot of development.

I know that you're bitching about the grand O-Line Poles never gave Fields, which you claim to already know isn't any good? Kind of sounds like you just wanted Big Names to make you feel better at night, like a lot of dumb fans.
Agreed.

I think a large portion of NFL fans judge the off-season by the big names that are widely known to most if not all casual fans.

A ton of people clamor for drafting BPA but then cry when the team doesn’t draft either the guys they wanted as fans or when the team doesn’t draft a certain position bc that’s where all the writers say we are lacking of talent in.

Poles drafted the guys that he had higher on the board at those picks. Some times draft boards fall in your favor and sometime not. Using hindsight is pretty convenient thing to use when people are now talking about Pickens or whomever else is the talk of the town.

We have a ton of money next year and everyone is just waiting on who they’ll spend all that money on when we don’t really know if anyone at our position of needs will even be available as they seem to dropping like flies of late.

Draft picks are never guaranteed but neither are free agents to be honest. Many quit, many get hurt as they’re getting older or hit walls.

The general consensus though is that you have to build through the draft given all the variables to consider in todays NFL.

I personally am happy with all that Poles did, as he stuck to his word and is building through the draft and cleaning out bad contracts that don’t help us in the right time frame.

He did snag it and then the DB knocked it out of his hands. Those guys get paid to make plays too. Yes we would all like for him to hold onto the ball but it was a good play by the DB. Every WR gets the ball knocked out of his hands from time to time. Using that as some basis to claim he is not a number 1 is silly.

Yes he should have held onto it. The db made a play on a bad throw after he was completely embarrassed by Mooney.

That celebration was like making a huge celebration after a touchdown when down by 30.

The db at least did not give up on the play after being burnt, that’s the only thing that should be celebrated. Making a huge deal about breaking that pass up might just give that db a false sense of security bc if Mooney runs that same route 100 times, it’s probably a TD more often than an incompletion.

Needs to be a much better throw, that’s the difference in most games of winning and losing! Even if he catches that, it’s a blown opportunity for sure!

Umm no. Mooney had a few steps on the DB, that is not a ball that should be thrown back shoulder. That is a ball if he hits Mooney in stride it is a TD. You throw back shoulder when the DB has tight coverage not when your WR with 4.3 speed has his man beat deep.

Darnell Mooney is not a jump ball contested catch No 1 WR. Neither is Tyreek Hill. They are Speed and Quicks No 1 WRs. So the onus is on the QB to throw the ball out in front of them when they have their man beat deep not back shoulder it to a 5-10 WR who has to break his stride and come back to a ball that is underthrown. You throw back shoulder to St Brown or Harry. Not Tyreek Hill or Darnell Mooney.
Yes no maybe, in that drill there is no Safety over the top, and in real game there most certainly could be. Depends on the drill I guess.

Sounds good but I just don't get the sense that Jenkins would be fighting against playing guard unless he's following his agents direction.

This is the lack of motivation and maturity I've mentioned as a potential issue in the past. He may be the most physically gifted OL we have but it means jack if he doesn't bring it or conform to coaching. If he doesn't make it, it will have nothing to do with his ability. It will be due to his head.

Remember when folks were impressed with Fields and Kmet knocking baseballs out of the park. Guess which non-baseball player was doing the same.

Jenkins really was 1st round talent. If he ever shows it is another matter.
