Yes no maybe, in that drill there is no Safety over the top, and in real game there most certainly could be. Depends on the drill I guess.

Well yes, I am referring to that specific play where it is one on one and he has a few steps on the DB.

If a safety is over the top and in good position then I either move to another receiver or throw that early, close to sidelines and on a rope (rather than with air underneath it) before the S gets there.

Actually easier for a DB to defend a back shoulder when he is trailing by a few steps as he will typically have clear sight of the WR who he is trying to catch and less likely to overrun the purposely underthrown ball than a guy in tight coverage.

Sounds good but I just don't get the sense that Jenkins would be fighting against playing guard unless he's following his agents direction.

That agent would be stupid. He hasn't proven himself in the NFL and is still has 3 more years before FA for his agent to be worried about Tackles making more money in FA than Guards.

I would take this report with a grain of salt. Don't know who this guy is but I suspect Eberflus would have no problem calling Jenkins out if it was all down to immaturity or effort especially if he was missing practice because of it.

He did snag it and then the DB knocked it out of his hands. Those guys get paid to make plays too. Yes we would all like for him to hold onto the ball but it was a good play by the DB. Every WR gets the ball knocked out of his hands from time to time. Using that as some basis to claim he is not a number 1 is silly.
I liked this but really, I wish he'd assume a habit of a quick tuck and cover instead of the extended keep away that works better for big #1s. His hand size and overall length/girth is not conducive to greater success by not tucking.

I am just assuming that was a 7 on 7, and no safeties were on the field. Quite possible Fields was actually practicing a back shoulder throw, in which case, Mooney should have held on to the ball.

Think he didn't quite catch it clean and was still trying to secure it. Also hard to tuck as the DB's hands where already in-between his 2 hands as he was first catching it so he probably felt it was better to keep 2 hands on it rather than try and tuck it and risk ot being knocked out on the transfer.

Yeah doubtful for me. You practice whatever throw the DB gives you. That is not a good look to throw back shoulder there.

This is why you don't throw back shoulder when there is too much space. The DB can easily read the WR as looking right at him and can see his eyes. If it was tight coverage, it would be hard for the DB to read the WR.

Screenshot_20220731-082548_Chrome.jpg

And then here because there was space the DB can't over run the play and naturally stops in good position and already has his hand in between the WRs two hands. Again if he were in tight coverage it would be more likely he realizes a bit too late it is back shoulder and his momentum would take him further past the WR.

As it stands he was actually in perfect position to see what the WR was doing and was able to halt his momentum at a perfect time to get his hand in-between Mooney's arms while Mooney is still in the air.

He is going to hit that ball just as Mooney is landing and trying to get balance so physics is against Mooney here as DB's hand is going up while Mooney is coming down. Mooney is fighting the DB and gravity here and is almost always going to lose. I would say he should have held onto it if he was already on the ground with 2 hands on it.

Still speculative as far as I'm concerned but IF it's true: The Bears are in a full rebuild and there is no established veteran presence to keep him in line. Poles has already fired a guy for failing to set the correct tone in terms of culture and discipline. IF a guy who is basically a second year rookie tackle refuses to play guard they have to bench him and if he doesn't respond to that they will have to cut him. I highly doubt any team will trade for him if he's expected to show up on the waiver wire.

Probably true but I'd like him to try to body and tuck those anyway. Maybe not the best example but those are the type of one on ones he lost last year and the very thing I think is preventing him from becoming a better #1. Nobody appreciates Mooney more than I do but he needs to win more of those regardless of the circumstances.

I think Flus would keep that in house like everything else but I agree it may be overstated. That said, Jenkins does seem to lack motivation other than Sundays.

why do they HAVE to trade him to a team with a respected head coach? does he have a no trade clause?
Because Ryan Poles, the GM @dabears70 hasn't judged yet, hired a unrespected HC, which he hasn't judged yet, and is incapable, though not judging, of not getting "swindled."

Shit ton of speculation about a guy missing a few practices. Remember when it was "reported" Robert Quinn was a hold out trying to force a trade away from the rebuilding Bears?

This is horrible news if the kid has maturity issues and already doesn't get along with any of this new coaching staff. We'll have to ship him out to a team with a respected HC that will take on someone like him and get swindled on the return. BB or A.Reid.
No they obviously can trade him anywhere they want but in the past when you see what happens with players with character issues it's usually the teams that have the respected HC's that have been around a while that take on players with any kind of character issues because many don't want to take on a player with maturity issues or players that can't get along with other coaches. I was just making an assumption but he's young so maybe we could find other teams that would give him a shot, but would think we would still lose in any trade we would make and not get a high 2nd round pick in return for him, but again, i'm just making an assumption.

Would love for him to get better at it for sure but simply dont think it is part of the skill set I expect from a WR of his type. Dont think the Chiefs or Dolphins expected Hill to win a bunch of back shoulder passes.

He has the speed to win over the top, quickness to win underneath, is a good route runner and has some YAC ability. If his one weakness is on jump balls then so be it. That is why you get a guy like St Brown or Harry to complement him.

I would also say Fields probably understands this as well. His WRs at OSU were not jump ball types. They were guys who won deep on speed.

This must be bizarro world if Kaplan is being considered a trusted source

Reiff, Schoefield and Whitehair are vets. First two are new but plenty of vet experience on that OL now.

Possibly but just saw him chewing out Jackson for lack of effort the other day. I just dont think he would let Jenkins hide behind injury if the immaturity was as bad as the article makes it sound.

I think what is more likely if this story has any legs is Jenkins is letting the bad press get to him and Flus basically gave him some time off to get his mind right.

The reality is not much value in having Jenkins out there until the pads come on as that is the only avenue for him to really show what he can do so may have just told him to be ready to show what he can do come Monday.

Maybe that ball was just underthrown which Fields does do and it was supposed to be a over the shoulder TD catch and not back shoulder.

Yes I would be surprised if the intent was really to back shoulder it given how open Mooney was.

And this is your opinion so what makes your opinion right and mine wrong?

I expected more in free agency. Not saying i expected him to sign any of the big names but expected more than what he's done.

This offseason has been underwhelming IMO.
So you didn't expect Poles to sign any of the big names. That means that you expected Poles to sign some of the non-big names which is exactly what he did.

The Bears currently have 16 OL players on the team, 5 rookies and 6 new free agents and 5 returning players. Please name three players that are better than Reiff, Schofield and Louis Patrick who should have been the Bears choices to sign.

Moreover; the Bears DID go after the top offensive line prospect but his demands were just too high. They also went after other free agent linemen but their contracts were matched.

Seeing that you did not expect the Bears to go after any of the top tier free agents, it should be near impossible for the offseason to be underwhelming in your eyes because they did bring in 6 offensive line free agents and three of them were more than mere camp bodies.

I believe that you wanted the Bears to land 2 or 3 top offensive line free agents and are underwhelmed with what they ended up getting, not 2 or 3 top offensive line free agents. The problem is that you created an unreasonable goal to match and are upset that the Bears did not reach that unreasonable goal.

The Bears did well with what they had in cap space at the time of the start of free agency and improved a lot right before the start of training camp.

I don't read your books, you should know that by now. Go check the stats.
Then answer this short question from him...

Like can you find a single post these past 7 years where you were on Pace's case for a poor offseaon. Or are you going to pretend every Pace offseason was a winner?
