Cubs losing interest in Stewart.. Pretty much just focusing on Headley now and hoping the price drops.

That is true, about the 3 hitter... But the Cubs would have no cleanu-up hitter. So.. it's up for toss.

They'd have Fielder.

Castro can hit #3. Plus Jackson and Castro were project as down the line #3 hitters anyways. If Castro starts developing a bit more power 15-20HR's a year and keep shis average about where it's at now, maybe even a tick below in the 285-290 range he'd be a really solid 3 hitter in front of Fielder for quite a few seasons.

Yeah.. I was responding to Lex. When he said Fielder will bat 3. If you look at his post, it should make it more clear.

You really think that that the Cubs are okay with putting that product on the field every day? We have money to play with. The Cubs will make at least one big splash this offseason. They have to. Theo has to win over the fans that we have lost since 09.

wow, just wow. you are the type of fan that owners love! the more of you, the more money they make. sad.

Another team out of the Fielder sweepstakes, the Jays GM said they're probably out.

It looks like Pujols and the Marlins are closing in on a deal. We could find out soon and by the latest tonight.

his power was starting to show late last season, i think he could be a 15-20 guy. a 3 hitter for sure. the only thing i would worry about is the defense.

If this is true about Miami and Pujols, we have to walk away with Fielder, even if we overpay.

You're better off spending the money on top tier talent. Beyond this year, there's a dearth of top tier hitters on the level of Pujols and Fielder. We really don't have anything in our farm system that resembles what Fielder does...at least nothing obvious. So, this is an absolute must and you can easily justify what you pay him.

Mariners now favorites to land Fielder, per ESPN's Jim Bowden.

Pretty much plus we have absolutely no good talent for 1B in our system.

Somehow I doubt the Cubs would want to trade for Hanley even if they had the assets to pull the trigger on said trade.

He doesn't want to change positions, we have a SS... he doesn't mean I don't want to change positions unless I am traded, then I'm open to switching... he means, I want to stay SS.

Nevermind the position change. Does anyone remember when was benched for not playing hard and then acted like eveyrone else was wrong? I don't see how people can be all for getting rid of "bad apples" like Zambrano and then be for something like this.

Because Ramirez is still an all-star and Zambrano isn't at their points in their careers.

If we have what it takes, I'd trade for Hanley. Move Castro to 3B or 2B.
