So what makes Kyle Tucker different from Suzuki? Hitting stats wise they seem to be the same player, but Tucker has more speed. Is he elite in RF?
ummm what??

tucker put up 4.7 WAR in 78 games last year with an OPS+ of 181

Suzuki had 3.5 WAR in 132 games witha n OPS+ of 138

how does that equal same player stats wise in any way, shape, or form?

Here is a what if.

Cubs send Suzuki and Wicks to SD for Cease.

Cubs send Busch, Caissie and Horton to Houston for Tucker.

Cody moves to 1B. Tucker to RF, Ballestroes becomes the primary DH.

Shaw takes over 2B with Hoerner staying on as the main UI.

Line up

Happ LF
Shaw 2B
Bellinger 1B
Tucker RF
Paredes 3B
Ballestroes DH
Swanson SS
PCA CF
Amaya C

Rotation

Steele
Cease
Shota
Taillon
Byrd
Aaaand the Cubs start looking again for their long term first baseman.

Or are you slotting in Mervis?

Lol. No. 1B is not a hard position to cover next year.

There are a few hick ups going on

Tucker will test F/A. So it is a 1 year rental

But it is gaining traction. Seems that they want both Suzuki and Paredes and want Cam Smith. And for 1 year of control that is way too much.

I can see Paredes as Shaw slots into 3B. Caissie makes sense as RF now becomes open. Then add Wicks and Wesneski as they are just there for depth on the Cubs

I personally would flip Cody for Castillo in this one

Happ, Hoerner, Tucker, Suzuki, Busch, Swanson, PCA, Shaw, Amaya.

I see this as Jed finally getting out of his safe zone as he has to justify another deal so I don't see a conservative approach IE do nothing and pray that they are not a 83 win team when it has been proven to be true 2 years now

MLB.com is keeping track of all the latest Cubs-related free agent and trade rumors right here.

Dec. 11: Cubs discussing trade for All-Star OF Tucker (reports)
The Cubs and Astros have discussed a possible trade involving outfielder Kyle Tucker going to Chicago and outfielder Seiya Suzuki and third baseman Isaac Paredes heading to Houston, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome (subscription required).

Suzuki may be out of reach for Houston, however, as a league source told The Athletic that the Cubs are "highly unlikely" to trade him. Instead, they would seemingly prefer to move first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger in a separate deal. Suzuki, who is owed $38 million over the next two seasons, also has a full no-trade clause.

Talks between the Cubs and Astros are described as "fluid" and likely involve other players, including prospects. Rosenthal and Rome report that the Astros are interested in third baseman Cam Smith, the Cubs' No. 7 prospect and a 2024 first-round Draft pick. MLB Network insider Joel Sherman reports in the New York Post that the Astros are prioritizing Major League-ready corner infielders and starting pitching in return for Tucker. Sherman mentioned that first baseman Matt Shaw, the Cubs' No. 1 prospect, is another player whom the Astros like.

Love how they said 1B Matt Shaw. I guess not a reach for a 3B,SS, 2B putting on a 1B mitt.

I dug into Tucker's stats a bit given it seems likely to be a move the cubs make and I wasn't super familiar. Came away thinking he's modern day Larry Walker. Walker was a career .313/.400/.585 hitter with great defense and a bit of speed(30/20 type in his peak). Tucker is a career .274/.353/.516 hitter who looks like he can be a 30/30 hitter. Granted Tucker's average isn't quite as stellar as Walker which drags the rest of his slash line down a bit but almost no one is hitting .300 these days. There were 7 qualified hitters who hit .300+ this year. In Walker's peak season of 1997 there were 35 players. The 35th ranked player this year hit .273. So, if you roughly toss on 27 points to Tucker's career .274 you're at roughly .300/.380/.545 and maybe a bit higher on the slug because some of those .27 points will go for extra bases.

Anyways, as for the trade, I'm fine given up Parades. I'm fine giving up Suzuki but if both of those have to go i'm not giving up much else. Maybe a low end prospect but i'm absolutely not giving up Shaw or Cam Smith.

If it was 1 year for 1 year on both it would be a fair trade. Most likely Tucker goes to F/A and goes outside of Tom's comfort zone. The largest deal Tom has signed off on was Heyward. So I expect 7/180 to be where Tom is at and that is not a realistic ask on a 5-6 WAR talent that has no holes in his game.

That said this really depends if it is a all in year and a reset after Jed leaves then I get it.

Cubs and Yanks appear close to a deal with Belli going for their #5 prospect Will Warren. The fact that names are being tossed around makes me think we are gonna wake up to a trade or two.

AND...... The Cubs are still the favorite in a trade for Tucker. I'd imagine it has to be Seiya going for Tucker though.

I doubt that it will be Suzuki.

I can see Paredes, Caissie, Wicks as a baseline. They should haggle on the next guy but Wesneski would make sense as he really needs a opertunity to start and Jed tends to go with margin types.

NYY and Bellinger has been a ongoing topic for over a year now. Going back to 2023 deadline. The short porch in RF should boom his market and make his 2026 option a joke. He got caught into exit velocity crap and ran into bad conditions at home. 117 wRC+ away. 99 at home. This follows a trend of the team. Pitchers did better at home than their away splits and the hitters the opposite

When it is one guy it is a player issue. All it is a park issue.

I’d hate for it to be Seiya, especially when it sounds like Belli is gone

But, if the Astros demand Seiya, you still pull the trigger for Tucker 100%

Tucker is a stud and would be the middle of the lineup bay they’ve truly needed for a while now. And a lefty bat, which they’ve needed

They have been starting up with Pete Alonso also.

Could be leverage or could be a DH.

It makes sense to add Alàcantara with Cody to get most of the deal soaked. That #5 pitching prospect is fine as a return. Gives another option. I would go in with The mind set of giving Ben Brown the job unless they win the sweepstakes.

I hated Alonso as a primary addition but if you add his power after adding a bat like tucker, I don't hate that. If they add tucker only while trading bellinger and Suzuki plus a top prospect, I think they've gotten worse at the mlb level and lost a top prospect.

I fully expect jed to do nothing because he's a schmuck

1:03pm: The Cubs and Astros are “close” to an agreement on a Tucker trade, tweets Heyman. Ari Alexander of KPRC-2 in Houston reports that the two sides have discussed a return that would send Paredes, Smith and a third player to Houston.
