I hated Alonso as a primary addition but if you add his power after adding a bat like tucker, I don't hate that. If they add tucker only while trading bellinger and Suzuki plus a top prospect, I think they've gotten worse at the mlb level and lost a top prospect.

I fully expect jed to do nothing because he's a schmuck

Looks like wheels are moving.

I'm expecting Jordan Wicks as the 3rd.

I would still flip Suzuki for Cease after. Then kick Alàcantara and Bellinger plus 5M to the Yanks for that prospect. Target Alonso with the feed up payroll.

Jed needs to strike after the Crew just gave up the year. Moves like this puts Jed's foot on the collective throat of the central

1:20pm: Right-hander Hayden Wesneski is also involved in the talks., per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Not shocking

Cubs still need a closer after everything you listed

Sounds about done. 3:1. Paredes, Smith and Wesneski. I take that as a win for Jed.

You may not like Hodge but his advanced numbers showed elite level production.

That said Jed has been in talks with 2 f/a relievers.

I do like hodge. I'd also like another established arm or 2 in the pen.

If tucker is only a Cub for 1 year the trade is an L for jed. If he's extended, it's a huge win as they didn't give up much

great trade for the cubs

Paredes isnt anything special and neither is Wesneski. Smith is a loss, but for a guy of Tuckers quality that is well worth it!

Pax just posted it as done.

AJ Minter makes sense and that closer that converts everything but has crap numbers are on the table.

If Jed just wants a guy to be able to continuously give a stable 9th while having Hodge and Minter being high leverage guys I'm down

I think that this is a signify that Shaw is the opening day 3B and he is not a stepping stone.

Seeing how he has been at 3B last year and team USA. Just roll with it. He is a plus athlete

Shaw is def the opening day starter at 3rd. Belli is going to be traded. Tucker is FA next year but we didnt give up anything big. Parades doesnt fit Wrigley with his all pull approach. Wes is depth. Cam could become something but worth the give up with our depth.

Not a bad trade. Losing Smith hurts but the Cubs have a lot of prospect depth to work with now. Obviously if they can extend Tucker then it helps reduce the sting a bit as well.

I’d rather trade Suzuki and keep Bellinger due to positional flexibility and the fact Cody tends to have meh seasons and great ones. Is he due for a great one after last year?

when was codys last great season? 2019 was the last time he had a season as good or better than any of kyle tuckers last 4 seasons

at this point, codys 2019 season looks like the outlier to an okay career

and in regards to vs Suzuki, belli is the odd man out cuz the cubs still want to attract japanese players like Roki

I'd keep both. Bellinger and tucker give a nice lefty balance to the lineup. If you have to trade someone, convince happ to waive his no trade clause.

Money is a big factor here. Almost 10 million less per year, and he is a more dependable bat.
This allows us to make moves for a front line starter and closer still.

i wouldnt. get something for cody now while people are willing to part with something of value. he isnt that good and is going to continue to decline IMO.

Happ actually had the better year and over the last 3 years...
Happ total WAR = 11.1
Belli = 8

They have also hit the same number of HR's the last 3 years with 63 each

Happ is just the better player and cheaper than Cody is

Happ has to be the most empty war player of anyone I've ever watched

Anyone cap smart know how far under the luxury tax we are?

if this is accurate along with this

saying the threshold is going to be 241 million, then the cubs should have some room to play still
