I’d rather have the Vikings GM honestly.. getting 1 Justin Jefferson is better than anything Pace has done. Cousins hasn’t even been that bad for the Vikings, and he won’t have to worry about the QB position here.

The title of the thread absolutely hit the nail on the head. The 4 main problems have been:
1-George McCaskey
2-Ted Phillips
3-Ryan Pace
4-Matt Nagy

But problem number 1 and 2 are still the ones making decisions! It’s only about money to the board. Not winning championships.

George is going to defer to Polian, who recommended firing Pace, you know that wasn’t an easy feat, George loves Pace. Polian is ancient, but he did do brilliant things in the NFL. Ted’s going to have input, but probably more as a security blanket.

People keep saying Polian thought Jackson should have been a WR. Probably a lot of guys thought that. He could have literally played any number of different positions. Polian has eyes, he’s seen the Ravens play. He knows Lamarr can play.

The Bears launched Nagy AND Pace. I’m super happy about that. If they were going to an old guy with Ernie Accorci’s track record, I would be bummed, and it’s the Bears, so there’s always a chance they’ll screw it up, but for now I’m going to be cautiously optimistic about them for the first time since the 2019 season fell apart.

Oh yeah what a great big win Hub. All the other teams wanted Polian to pick their HC but the Bears snatched him up. That’s why he hasn’t made an NFL decision in 10 years, wait, what?

The search team will consist of Bill Polian, George McCaskey, Ted Phillips, Soup Campbell (Player Relations), and Tanisha Wade (Senior VP of Diversity and Inclusion).
So we will have 1 football person, 1 sorta football person, and 3 non football people making the decision with George making the ultimate decision.

Ted Phillips will still be over the GM. George the Lessor will still be over him.
Is soup Campbell a real name?

This why having Pace as pres may have been viable. Instead of finding one and adding an actual football guy, they've done nothing different than before in terms of useable structure or how they search the GM hire. We all wanted Pace gone but the team needed a genuine president with football acumen.
At the end of the day is that even the best thing for Pace? He will bounce to a good fit for his skills somewhere.

I figured out how the team can save money; get rid of the entire Diversity and Inclusion department. Giant con, waste of resources. We don't need to pay some Gender Studies grad $150,000+ per year to tell George there need to be less white males around.

I can do that job for half the salary.

Tanisha Wade is probably the most qualified person to be making decisions.

George McCaskey was given his position, has no people skills, zero football analytics skills, and no leadership.

Polian is operating in the dark ages and his resume is blah. Especially for someone with decades of opportunity.

Ted Phillips must have mastered the Jedi mind trick because he should have been fired long ago. He's an idiot.

So, I am glad that Tanisha is there to, hopefully, make a suggestion like, "I think you need to run that by the board at least"

Philips should be fired

fields deserves no input on the next hc that’s ridiculous lol.
As far as the coach/GM search, Phillps is there as a security blanket for George. He's there to sit in the meetings and hold George's hand. Campbell and the diversity woman probably can talk football without appearing incompetent, so George wants them in the meetings, because he can't talk about anything without appearing incompetent.

George is going to follow Polian's recommendation for HC/GM. Polian talked George into firing Pace. George obviously didn't want to fire Pace, but he DID. It couldn't have been easy for him, he loves the guy. Polian talked George into moving Ted out of the way. I'm sure George didn't want to do that either, but he DID. Phillips is going to work on the new stadium, he won't have anything to do with day to day football. Why fire him? Hopefully they get a state of the art facility, and I'm still alive to see it.

Agree with Bearzombie about Fields, who has done NOTHING in the NFL. A lot of that is due to the shit roster and crap coaching, but there you are.

The GM and HC are going to have all the power in football operations, ALL of it. It will depend on who they get, as to how they share that power. George was afraid he'd get cooties when Nagy talked to him about the QB situation. George is a weirdo, and Nagy was probably just trying to make conversation, but it shows that George will not be meddling. Polian accomplished great things in his time, built two SB teams, and supposedly still "knows everybody," despite being 100 years old. He's a smart MF, he knows whats wrong with the Bears. He's NOT Ernie Accorsi, and Phillips is a non-factor.

Polian RETIRED from working day to day in football. He didn't lose interest, stop watching, forget everything he learned, or stop learning. He built two SB teams, hired a bunch of successful HC's, he's the shit, or was. He didn't stop being smart.

Ernie Accorsi was JUST A GUY, his teams were about .500. George's NYG owner friends put them together. The Bears supposedly called Polian, who is TREMENDOUSLY ACCOMPLISHED, out of the blue.

George, who somehow knows nothing about football, was "surprised" that Polian "knew all about" the Bears situation. It's laughable, but at least they have someone smart to pick their next GM/HC. Had Polian been in the mix, they NEVER would have hired the last two sets of idiot HC/GM's.

The evolution of George McCaskey.

1) George is a weirdo, so he hired Emery and Trestman, two weirdos.

2) That failed, and George, who doesn't know anybody, reached out to his owner-friends. They put him in touch with a .500 ex-GM, who identified a sub par up-and-comer.

3) That failed, and George, who doesn't know anybody, cold called an ex-GM, who built two SB teams from the ground up. TBC.
