Polian RETIRED from working day to day in football. He didn't lose interest, stop watching, forget everything he learned, or stop learning. He built two SB teams, hired a bunch of successful HC's, he's the shit, or was. He didn't stop being smart.

Ernie Accorsi was JUST A GUY, his teams were about .500. George's NYG owner friends put them together. The Bears supposedly called Polian, who is TREMENDOUSLY ACCOMPLISHED, out of the blue.

George, who somehow knows nothing about football, was "surprised" that Polian "knew all about" the Bears situation. It's laughable, but at least they have someone smart to pick their next GM/HC. Had Polian been in the mix, they NEVER would have hired the last two sets of idiot HC/GM's.

Had Polian not been in the mix this time - they NEVER would have fired Ryan Pace.

Chew on THAT one.

The evolution of George McCaskey.

1) George is a weirdo, so he hired Emery and Trestman, two weirdos.

2) That failed, and George, who doesn't know anybody, reached out to his owner-friends. They put him in touch with a .500 ex-GM, who identified a sub par up-and-comer.

3) That failed, and George, who doesn't know anybody, cold called an ex-GM, who built two SB teams from the ground up. TBC.

So, remember when I said that the McCaskeys were the suckers at the poker table?

Your point 2 is proof. McCaskey reached out to people he thought were his friends, and who did his "friends" give him to help look?

A bad GM.

And don't think they didn't know that.

I think reaching out to Polian was the best thing George could have done. And I think Polian revealed all the ways George's "friends" were screwing him over.

And I think that's why George was extra hostile - he's outta fucks to give now.

I don't know if George's NYG-owner-friends were actually trying to sabotage the Bears, but it's possible. They may have been genuinely trying to be helpful. Their organization is in worse shape than the Bears.

If you're a sucker at the poker table, I think the better option is to learn about the game instead of trying to find people to help you decide which hand to play and hope they have your best interests.

You're right, of course, but I don't think he's all that interested. Owning the Bears is just something that has been forced on him by his life circumstances. I think he's autistic--probably knows a lot about trains. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a giant setup in his basement, crashing them together like Gomez Addams.

My brother is autistic and I have worked with folks with autism professionally for almost a decade. I wouldn't classify him as autistic or even on the spectrum. He's just an ordinary idiot.

Jive, I've known a ton of autistic people in my life. My dad was autistic. No offense at all to you or your brother or your professional experience, God bless you by the way, but as you just said there's a whole spectrum. I worked in science, which is filled with these folks, some of them with enormous intellects. George has that glint in his eyes, that is a dead ringer, as well as that super-awkward inability to see how he's coming off in public. My guess is that he's smart about things he likes, but doesn't really have an interest in running the Bears, which is why he never learned anything about football, and as I said was more or less forced into the job by his life circumstances. Being in the public eye would have never been his choice had he been born into an ordinary family. Might have never even watched football.

Agree to disagree

This is true. There’s no way George would have done it if his own accord.

And the funny thing is, most are now complaining that he DID fire Pace, because we needed a “football person” in the Pres position. People talking out both sides of their mouths….

To be fair, there's alot more involved in a diagnosis than what you can see on TV. It really should be done in person, and there's a battery of tests that go along with it.

If he has no interest in running it, he shouldn't. He didn't have to take over when Mike was 'promoted'. He has had numerous opportunities to defer, but he still shows that he wants to be in charge.

It may be as simple as his mom has always expected him to work in the family business, and when the time came, she asked him to take a shot at running the team. He presumably sold tickets well enough up to that point. When Virginia does eventually go to that great gridiron in the sky, if George is still alive, I wouldn't at all be surprised if he abdicated the throne, and married Wallis Simpson.

With this analogy you are by implication calling George a Nazi sympathizer

I'll allow it.
