I was posting in August that Darnold was going to have a Baker type of year because QB play is highly dependent on the situation in which they're in and the Minnesota offense has an elite offensive head coach, good OL and excellent weapons.

And the return that Poles got for Fields to me reflects Poles' mismanagement of the situation more than it reflects Justin's value in the NFL and like I said - in a few weeks we'll see what opportunity and contract Justin gets.
Unfortunately, there's not really any golden opportunities to be had. I don't think there's an equivalent to the Vikings type of opportunity.

I think he's going to be on one of: Jets, Browns, Raiders, Steelers, or Colts.

Of those, I think the best combo of opportunity and fit, might be the Colts. Browns might like him, but they'll be trash, especially if they dump Garrett. I don't think the Jets will have any interest. I never liked him on the Steelers cause that offense will never help him grow. Raiders... I dunno... lots of moving parts.

My assumptions are Jets will stick with Rodgers another year if he doesn't flake out. Raiders will go get darnold and draft someone. Browns seem destined for a kirk/Watson situation. Giants and Tennessee probably draft ward and shedeur. I think steelers stick with russ and draft someone but it's possible they give fields a mitch type contract and draft someone to compete.

Colts as a back up for Richardson feels like a real possibility and fields will undoubtedly get playing time and be the better qb.

Wouldn't be a bad idea for him to try to get a back up job in minny, sf, or LA and learn under great offensive coaches for a couple years.

Raiders fans have been talking a lot on Twitter about how he fits with Chip Kelly and given Carroll's history with QBs and Spytec being on the Bucs who got extreme value out of Baker - it makes sense to me.

Pretty sure the Browns are going to go with Kirk + a rookie, no idea what everybody else is doing.

I hope they keep fields. I want fields to have a long career. Maybe we can bring him back as a backup at some point.

I dont think most of us are even anti-fields. I was a huge fields fan and still like him, but realized the bears had a pretty obvious decision in their hands last year. Then the league told us what they thought of fields. Then a few weirdos have clung onto him non stop since.
Nah, man. All the GMs and coaches are wrong. A few guys on CCS are right.

The issue with Kirk is the timing of the cut. I'm not sure if they want to eat the cost this year or wait til June. If they wait, all the teams will have to proceed as if he's not a FA, which means the Browns may need to figure out the QB situation prior to Kirk becoming available. The Falcons are projected to be over the cap as-is, so I'm not really sure if it's beneficial to cut him and just suck up the cost now or not.

What was 'mismanaged'?
-Holding onto Eberflus then hiring Waldron, holding onto Chris Morgan
-Same bullshit offensive line that Fields got and buried him then went onto bury Caleb
-tried to get too much for Fields initially (multiple reports were that they were trying to get a first for him) - the price was too steep and the Bears were then forced to trade Fields after the game of musical chairs ended
-didn't bring in Daniels or Maye for top 30 interviews

Poles overplayed his hand and locked in on Caleb without going through the whole process of evaluating the draft class. There wasn't anything about the process that wasn't fucked up.

But I don't really see how any of that affects the market value of Justin Fields. I don't really care if Poles tried to get a 1st for Fields....that's his job as a GM. I just think that the reality was that there was only lukewarm interest in Fields all along, and contrary to David Haugh's incessant yammering, teams weren't comfortable with installing Fields as their starting QB.

How could the Browns afford Kirk? They are upside down with the Watson contract?

They disabled copy & paste on this site but the Steelers are Wilson's only option and Fields appears to have better options elsewhere - they go onto mention the Titans and Raiders as possible destinations for Fields.

Says Wilson will get somewhere around 2/$30M from the Steelers with only one year guaranteed.

How are the Titans and Raiders better options than the Steelers? That's an interesting take. Does he mean financially?

Those organizations are both total shitshows that lack offensive talent.

Edit: the article doesn't say that Fields has better options, it's just speculation that the Titans or Raiders might be interested.

Also speculates that LV might be interested in Wilson.

Can you read?

Titans would maybe offer more money than the Steelers and the Raiders have a 1000 yard receiver in Jakobi Meyers (who's not a fucking head case like Pickens), Bowers who just had the best rookie TE season in NFL history and there's lots of speculation that Kelly's ideal fit for QB would be Fields given his athletic ability. So it could be a better situation given fit and cash - who knows.

Like I've been saying throughout this thread - we'll find out in a few weeks.

I feel like there's something lost in translation here with what kaboly is saying. Wilson isn't going to take a job as a back up which severely limits his market. Fields may take a job where he's competing and potentially is a back up.

I still say fields best option is signing as a back up for mcvay/shanny/koc and learning for 2 years. Get a couple chances to step in and play well then go take a job with a qb needy franchise.

Yes, I can even read on bit farther where the author contradicts himself. This is all just speculation anyway.

Also, the Titans would offer more than $30m/2 years? Or are you saying that PIT is going to offer Russ more than they would Fields?

I'm not arguing that it wasn't a giant misstep for Poles not to bring in Daniels. What, did he think he was going to hurt Caleb's feelings? As if a guy like Caleb can't handle the notion that the Bears are looking at more than just him? What, he'll collapse or something? It was utter nonsense and sure looked like the definition of confirmation bias. Great QBs in this world have always been about competition and the notion that somehow, this would be helping Caleb, that he'd do better his rookie year if he was the only one brought in? Just so dumb.

But if you think that ANYONE believed anyone else saying that we could obtain a first for Justin Fields then you are really pretty stupid. Just because there is some moron saying that in this place or even out there...anyone with a brain knew that couldn't ever happen. Not in this world. Not ever.

If you preferred CWs play and he gives a great interview, there really is no reason to do more. Right or wrong, in that situation, an interview wouldn't have changed anything.

I don't see Raiders and Fields as a match if Brady has a say. Their games couldn't be more different.
