I believe Poles spent last off-season attempting to prove to Caleb and his father that the Bears were only interested in drafting him, and the Bears were serious about building a winning team. This is why Daniels wasn’t looked at, and also why the Bears foolishly traded a 4th round draft pick for Keenan Allen.I'm not arguing that it wasn't a giant misstep for Poles not to bring in Daniels. What, did he think he was going to hurt Caleb's feelings? As if a guy like Caleb can't handle the notion that the Bears are looking at more than just him? What, he'll collapse or something? It was utter nonsense and sure looked like the definition of confirmation bias. Great QBs in this world have always been about competition and the notion that somehow, this would be helping Caleb, that he'd do better his rookie year if he was the only one brought in? Just so dumb.
Around that time, there were rumors about Caleb refusing to play for the Bears and Caleb also kept speaking about wanting to be drafted by a winning franchise (paraphrasing).
