So Pittsburgh goes into 2025 and tells this to their fan base:

“Last year we signed two quarterbacks.

The argument in favor of signing them was their low salaries.

One of the two clearly won the quarterback job over the other, yet with the better QB playing, we were not truly contenders.

This year we’ve decided to go into the season with the man who lost the quarterback battle.

We will pay him significantly more than we paid the two of them together last year and we still need to find a back up quarterback and pay him, too.

We feel we have a chance to win nine games and maintain our non-losing season streak, which will justify keeping the head coach who hasn’t won a playoff game in 10 years.“
Did Russell Wilson “lose the QB battle” to Justin Fields? Seems to me they were both pretty mediocre-to-below-average.

The fact that new Jets HC Aaron Glenn was the DC for the Detroit Lions during Justin Fields’ entire Chicago Bears career, it speaks volumes that he reportedly wants Fields to be his starting Quarterback.
Fields best games were usually vs. Lions.

At this point, I'd rather see what Fields can do with a longer leash as opposed to running it back with Russell Wilson. The Steelers offense went completely stagnant by the end of the year with Wilson at QB....it was like watching a Kyle Orton-led team. Yeah, neither choice is ideal but at least Fields might have 'upside'.

I think his post was saying Fields lost the battle and they’re going to have to sell it to the fan base that they chose to keep the guy that they didn’t start last year.

I thought he was saying Fields won the battle, but the Steelers started Wilson instead because of $$$.

Talk about being a passer for the NFL for at least 4 years and you average 110.6 a game. Damn. The point of a passer is to pass the ball.

If Jamarcus Russel averaged 107.2 a game in his last year with the raiders, and he was a huge bust, that’s telling.

I think they pay double in that situation, not less. Wilson only cost them $1.2m. Fields cost $6m. I think Fields is looking at double the total of those 2 this year.

No. I said they acquired both because the cost was low. Money didn’t factor into who was their starter. Why would it matter? You pay both no matter which one starts.

How did you get “less” from that?

Jets wanna run a run first offense - IMO Garrett Wilson is equal to if not slightly better than DJ and Breece Hall is by far the best RB that Fields will have ever played with.

On the OL they have some decent resources/players:
C - Tippmann 3rd year, 2nd rounder
LT - Fashanu 2nd year, 11th overall
G- Vera-Tucker 4th year, 1st rounder
G - John Simpson 27 year old starting level guard

Hackett was a disaster OC at both Denver and with the Jets and imo Rodgers was cooked starting in 2019 and propped up by LaFleur. They could easily be the second best team in the division next year.

Add Tyler Warren and that offense is fun.

Fields should go to the Raiders - Chip Kelley is the OC and there is an Ohio State connection which should make things at least familiar to him.

Tomlin is a defensive back ground and just like Lovie Smith his team emphasis is 1. Defense - 2. ST - 3. Offense

Much better opportunity for him with Raiders

Fields wasn’t with OSU when Kelly when was there. There isn’t a “connection.” I could see that Fields could run that NFL-ineffective offense that has been exposed in the NFL though.

They might trade Wilson, there have been rumors about him being moved since they are going to start over again. It seems to be unlikely though since he is happy with the Glenn hire

Not that his stats are impressive but you have to understand that the average yards per game is bullshit because he appeared in 4 games to run a gadget play; therefore his total passing yards should be divided by 6 and not 10. I’m kind of surprised that when you add the rushing yards and passing yards, Wilson really wasn’t that much better overall. Both QB’s are getting them nowhere. They are looking at a ceiling of the 7seed and an another embarrassing exit from the laid playoffs.
