Unfortunately for him, NFL means Not For Long. Grab as much money now and worry about team stability somewhere else. He better act as if this is his last bite at the apple.
It may be if he chooses the wrong team. He needs a 2 year opportunity as the unquestioned starter.

Yeah... if they promise you the job for two seasons but only offer you backup money...
Don't believe them

I believe the main domino has fallen, Sam Darnold. I expect to the Fields announcement to happen next, now that there is a contract to use for negotiations.

Letting fields walk for 2 years/40 million tells you what the Steelers really thought about Fields.
They tried to lowball him, but the new Lions regime wanted him and Justin wanted them. He also wanted to reunite with WR Garrett Wilson.

The Steelers are now scrambling to cut players because they are at the mercy of Aaron Rodgers demands.

He was their first choice and he preferred the Jets.

That isn't a big contract for a starting QB, though. If the Steelers really wanted him and thought he was the guy, they had the bandwidth to outbid the Jets.

There were some reports leading up to this that Fields wanted assurance from the Steelers that he would be the starter. The fact that that may have been a conversation, again, tells you what the Steelers thought about Fields.

It just seems like the Steelers didn't trust that Fields was the guy
