He also has the stigma of bring a losing QB, you’d think he’d want to break that but again he got his money
Good point, but I don't know if Justin would get an offer from a winning team. I don't think he can be choosey at this point.

Back in the day the Falcons made some nice runs with Vick. I wonder if the Jets will commit to his style?

@bamainatlanta i don’t like the Grady signing tbh
I don’t either. Feels like they are paying for past performance that just isn’t there anymore. He’s not the guy he once was; but in his defense, he was surrounded by absolute trash in Atlanta. He’s an expensive rotational piece now.

All of this smacks of Ryan Poles NOT getting a contract extension and having one year to win or else. Maybe there's hope afterall?

When have the Jets ever been smart with their money and decisions?
I know, right? I did like the Rogers signing. I don't know what the new coach has in mind, but I would've taken a flyer on Rogers with a new OC.

I think it’s been confirmed he got a couple more years of employment. I could be wrong.

I hope Fields does well. Breece Hall is underrated as a runner and Fields will help open things up for him there.

At #7 in the draft and having just drafted Olu Fashanu last year, it seems like Membou would be a lock to go there and play RT.
Good take, man (y)

That isn't a big contract for a starting QB, though. If the Steelers really wanted him and thought he was the guy, they had the bandwidth to outbid the Jets.

There were some reports leading up to this that Fields wanted assurance from the Steelers that he would be the starter. The fact that that may have been a conversation, again, tells you what the Steelers thought about Fields.

It just seems like the Steelers didn't trust that Fields was the guy
Sounds like a win win for everyone in that case. Lets pray Rodgers lead them on to their promised land

The money is great! Fricken amazing... for him and for his family and possibly generations to come.

But it is NOT just about the money.

The money represents that the Jets are 100% COMMITMENTED to him. The absolute worst thing for JF would have been to sign with the Steelers and have coach Tomlin bench him because of the pressure on Tomlin in Pittsburgh to maintain his winning record and/or make the playoffs. Pitt fans are growing restless with him and Tomlin, despite what he might say, knows it. Justin, holding a clip board for another year or two, would likely have been a career killer.

JF's leash will be super long with the Jets - dam near endless. JF is "the man" there, no question, which also means they will be devising an offense to fit his needs -- specifically tailored to him. Moreover, for them to pay JF that kind of money likely means they see something others dont -- and will be tapping into that. Add in his familiarity with their top receiver, Garret Wilson, and the Jets having the makings of being an amazing career destination for JF.

Last thing, Coach Glenn represents a new regime. The pressure won't be as great there as it in Pittsburgh to "win now" because Coach Glenn is new. I mean, Coach Glenn will have pressure but generally people will assume turning that moribund franchise around will take at least 2 years. In Pittsburgh, Tomlin has to win NOW! Meaning JF would have had to win NOW or likely hit the bench.

Last thing.... COMFORT means a lot to the development of a QB. This is truly an underrated component in the development of a QB. JF has never had that. He has always been coached to "play tight", win now, save jobs, don't turn the ball over, tight, tight, tight.... same thing the Bears did with Caleb last year. JF has never had people 100% committed to him like he has now. That will allow him to play freer and let his true talents show. Add to that all reports about the one thing that JF loves in people is LOYALTY..... and all reports say Coach Glenn is an extremely LOYAL person.... "a players coach" if you will. All of this leads to COMFORT.

The comfort and commitment that the Jets offered simply could not be matched. That comfort and commitment will likely lead to JF playing football at his highest level.... possibly his highest level ever!

Where? By who? I know Cronin said it's was in the offing but after that report it died down and nothing else to my knowledge came from it.

I know you put the caveat but this Jarrett signing reeks of desperation.

Obviously build up the OL trade a next year 4th round pick a sixth etc. Sign the best center that all looks good. Thuney is an okay move because he can be an example for any young guys they draft and he's been healthy which is half the battle.

But Jarrett?

Congrats to Darnold too — a guy who was an afterthought before last season. Always good to see these guys resurrect their careers. 3 years $100 — back that brinks truck up!
He, along with Baker Mayfield have helped change the perception of highly drafted quarterbacks whose careers start off slow through incompetence of front offices and coaches. They have shown the league that competent coaches and GMs can reach the untapped potential in a young quarterback.

I think the jury is still out on Darnold. Mayfield is the exception right now.

Dolphins signing QB Wilson
mia.png
Free agent quarterback Zach Wilson reached agreement on a one-year, $6 million, fully guaranteed deal that could grow to $10 million with the Miami Dolphins, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.

The move brings Wilson, drafted No. 2 overall by the New York Jets in 2021, back to the AFC East and gives the Dolphins a veteran backup behind starter Tua Tagovailoa. Wilson spent last season with the Denver Broncos, who traded a sixth-round pick to the Jets for Wilson and a seventh-rounder last April. The Broncos believed he could bounce back from his struggles in New York.
