When you have a billionaire who owns your team & not a board like the Bulls do, you can do whatever you want. Especially when said billionaire doesn't mind that he will be paying 3-1 on every dollar of his payroll that exceeds the LT. Lakers are the Yankees of basketball. Their payroll next season (w/ just Nash added alone) will be $88M. That's head & shoulders above every other teams payroll. Buss will pay roughly $30M to the league next season to keep that team intact. You would be hard pressed to find many owners, in any sport, that are willing to give away that kind of money.

Well maybe Reinsdorff should of took more advantage maketing Jordan the 90s

Jordan paved the way to make the Bulls "the yankees of basketball".......And reinsdorff has made plenty of money selling out tickets every year.
And he cashed in in the early 2000's bigtime while having rosters full of garbage and never going over salry cap ever with both the Sox and Bulls.
He owns not 1, but 2 professional sports teams that are very profitable.
He can afford to play like Buss on a smaller scale of course....Or else he's not the best of businessmen if he can only stay above water with 2 sports franchises......1 of them with the Jordan legacy..

It's not GarPax problem that every other big market team spends 85+mill per year for their players and the Bulls must not pass the salary cap. You pay peanuts you buy monkeys. I would say that their choices with the available budget were/are great.

If Rose is not the same player he was, there's no one in the world who will trade a superstar to get him. :turrible:

And that is EXACTLY why I suggested doing it NOW while stock is still high but an unknown.

Besides, ToonFaithful is bringing up an old topic from like a month ago that is old news.
May have seemed negative to a lot of you at the time, but those were negative times last month with how things turned out at the end of last season for Bulls fans like myself.
I havnt really gave that subject much thought lately.
I want Rose to get well and remain a Bull like the rest of you.

Bulls are the Yankees of Basketball. I don't know what baseball is but I know the Yankees. Same shit with every guy on earth who doesn't know what basketball is. He knows Jordan and the Bulls. That's why the Bulls are still the no1 team worldwide in merchandise sales. I believe that the Bulls owner must understand that he must pay some more money if he wants to win a championship. Superstar teams may be a trend but they will last forever unless the league make the salary cap a bit harder.

Not impressed. Nash simply isn't the PG he once was. If he can stay healthy, it definitely makes the Lakers better, but not enough to overtake the Thunder.

Also, Kobe never passes so what good does Nash do? :lmao:

Maybe in the 90s they were. The Yankees are consistent contenders and spend ridiculous amounts of money to win every single year. They expect a championship every single year. Anything less is deemed failure, by the fans, players and front office. The Bulls are far from having an attitude like that.

Also, 27 titles > 6. I wish the Bulls were the Yankees of the NBA, but that title belongs to Boston/LA.

The Lakers have a two-time league MVP on their roster again.

And that's exactly what Reinsdorff had the opportunity to do closing the 90s.
Instead of totally prematurely dismantling the Bulls in 98, coaching staff and all...Leaving sour tastes and basketball depression in Chicago for years and years......AND PHIL JACKSON SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN A LAKER....He was so bitter with managemnet that he prematurely retired and cameback a year later....
The more money you put in, the more money you make......
The more championships you win, the more the opportunity is there to make money.

Just FYI. The Yankees are a unique team in American sports, in a league with no Salary Cap. They spend a LOT of money, and it has been very rare for them to have a GOAT player from draft day. They buy their stars 95% of the time.

The other major league teams serve as the Yankees' minor league system.

Ah, that is not true. They certainly buy players, but the successful Yankees teams have developed their own core players as well. Their most successful period since perhaps the fifties was fueled by homegrown players like Jeter, Mo, Bernie Williams, Posada, Pettite. Even the current team has guys they "drafted" (signed in this case) like Robinson Cano to go along with Jeter, Pettite, and Mo that are still on the roster.

The Lakers are going to trade Bynum for Howard now.

WATCH

That's exactly what I posted on the last page........and time and time again before that.

Nice to see us on the same page for once. :beerbang:

The Lakers management personel are very loyal to there superstars and spend what needs to be spent to bring in the right guys...PAY TO PLAY.....I think they want to ensure that The face of the franchise(Kobe) gets at least 1 more ring before he rides off into the sunset....And be left with Howard to carry the torch beyond Kobes departure.
Investment in the fututre and now.

Meanwhile back at the old Pax ranch, the boys are shopping at Sanford and Sons salvage yard again as usual, LoL.

I'm not denying that he's made $$$. Bulls were the 2nd most profitable franchise last season (take a wild guess at #1...hint: it rhymes with Quakers).

And he cashed in in the early 2000's bigtime while having rosters full of garbage and never going over salry cap ever with both the Sox and Bulls.

Baseball doesn't have a salary cap & Bulls tried spending their $$ to get star players & it backfired because of the conceited troll that was the GM at the time.

He owns not 1, but 2 professional sports teams that are very profitable.

Bulls are profitable. The Sox, eh, not so much.

He can afford to play like Buss on a smaller scale of course....Or else he's not the best of businessmen if he can only stay above water with 2 sports franchises......1 of them with the Jordan legacy..

Good businessmen are always looking to maximize their profit at the smallest expense. JR has done that already. He's a great businessman. I don't think that can ever be argued against. And I agree that he can afford to open his wallet a bit, but that doesn't mean he has to frivolously spend $$$.

My problem has always been with JR, never with GarPax. Both Paxson & Foreman have attempted big trades, but have been vetoed by JR. If you want to blame someone for not having the balls to make trades or sign player X, look no further than JR.
