Ah, that is not true. They certainly buy players, but the successful Yankees teams have developed their own core players as well. Their most successful period since perhaps the fifties was fueled by homegrown players like Jeter, Mo, Bernie Williams, Posada, Pettite. Even the current team has guys they "drafted" (signed in this case) like Robinson Cano to go along with Jeter, Pettite, and Mo that are still on the roster.

They have drafted their own as well, but when you put the numbers up of their "home grown" stars, versus the stars they buy in, it's insanity.

The other major league teams serve as the Yankees' minor league system.

LoL
I don't have a problem with Thibbs and Teague, but can you please for the love of God, change your signature.....I can't stand to look at that ghoul and liar named Gar Foreman.

Guys I don't know what the Yankees are. I don't know how much money they spend.I don't know how they spend their money or if there isn't a salary cap in this game. I don't know what they are doing. I don't even know what baseball is. They are just the one and only baseball team I know. Just like the Bulls for any non basketball fan in the world.

I'm not denying that he's made $$$. Bulls were the 2nd most profitable franchise last season (take a wild guess at #1...hint: it rhymes with Quakers).

Baseball doesn't have a salary cap & Bulls tried spending their $$ to get star players & it backfired because of the conceited troll that was the GM at the time.

Bulls are profitable. The Sox, eh, not so much.

Good businessmen are always looking to maximize their profit at the smallest expense. JR has done that already. He's a great businessman. I don't think that can ever be argued against. And I agree that he can afford to open his wallet a bit, but that doesn't mean he has to frivolously spend $$$.

My problem has always been with JR, never with GarPax. Both Paxson & Foreman have attempted big trades, but have been vetoed by JR. If you want to blame someone for not having the balls to make trades or sign player X, look no further than JR.

Well, one thing for sure, Jerry should of fired Krause much much sooner and chose Jordan-Pippen-Jackson over him.........

Instead he keeps a guy around that hires golfing buddys to coach nba teams.

Not much different than Pax and hisVinny experiment.

But I'm not going to knock or hate on Jerry Riensdorff too much...I hear he's a great guy and true lover of sports......Plus, he has had much more sucess than most.....

Coulda woulda should goes on into infinity I guess

And the periods when it swings to the insane is when the teams are terrible like the late 80s for example. Very few teams in baseball are successful especially for long periods just by signing free agents.

You mean like Americans know who Manchester United is, is similar to how much of the world views the Bulls. But your lack of understanding on the Yankees here, made a lot of Bulls fans take offense to that claim. There are a lot of people who despise how the Yankees operate, and even though the Bulls could have learned from a few spending tricks, most of us are glad we aren't the Yankees of basketball. That is the Lakers.

Agree about Krause. I absolutely despised him even when we were winning Championships. I've even met him & he's even shorter & uglier in person than I would've imagined.

And btw, Vinny was JR's guy, not Pax's. Pax wanted Thibs that year but C's said no to an interview, so JR said "Go with a cheap interim" & BAM! Vinny was hired.

I don't give a shit if JR is a great guy or not. He's a true lover of BASEBALL, not sports. The Bulls are only an investment to him. That I have always had a serious problem with. I've said this time & time again, it is not the GM that needs to go, it's the owner.

I think its more like this.

Lakers
Bulls

Knicks? Maybe only because there in New York City and internationally known as the Mecca of America. Havnt won anything since the early 70s....it amazes me how the Knicks stay popular around the world.

Your right.
I forgot that Jerry only cares about baseball....

Since he's from Brooklyn, he should of sold the Bulls to CCS and bought the Nets.

Or better yet, just get oout of the basketball business all together and just own another baseball team.........I think Cubs fans wished he owned the Cubs instead of the Sox.

Yeah. I don't know about similarities or differences. The only thing I know is that the Yankees are the most famous Baseball team (I don't know another team basically lol) and the Bulls are the most famous basketball team. Michael Jordan may be the most known person in earth. Not athlete. I wouldn't be surprised if people know him even in Africa deserts!

Basically it's:

Bulls
Knicks
-
-
-
-
-
Celtics
Lakers

I am not sure about the order in the last two but the most known teams in the world are the Bulls and the Knicks for sure.

Did I really just read that Lakers gave up 2 1st rnd & 2 2nd rnd picks so they can pay a 39yr old $9M to hopefully help lead them to a Championship?

I wish the Bulls were like the Yankees. At least we could realistically say we could be chasing after *insert star players' name here* instead of Kirk Hinrich and Willie Green.

Or clonetrooper264 :shifty:
