There was red flags all the time prior to NIL, it doesn’t matter. They’ll just bring back the “wanting to win a Natty” argument and blah blah blah.
And you are proposing rule changes that would be challenged, and defeated, in court.

If we cap the amount then doesn't that put us right back where we were with players ending up getting paid under the table over that amount?

I do think the answer is capping how many times guys transfer
I think the paid cap wouldn't include any endorsements. And it's necessary. Otherwise pretty soon only the majors will be able to get the 4 and 5 stars.

But beyond that it would also cut down on mediocre players holding out for morr.

Why aren’t these NIL deals for more than one year? You want “stability” then make the deal a 4 year deal. NFL rookies have 4 year contracts. Why not college?
Unfortunately, at the moment, everyone is still pretending academics matter. Thus you can't "lock a kid to a school" because it may benefit him academically to go elsewhere.

Jay Bilas has recently been public about dropping the charade so that they will be able to prevent the annual transferring.

If his play isn’t drastically better than what we saw at UT, he won’t have much of a draft stock. He started out on fire against inferior competition and then looked mediocre the rest of the way.
Never seen him play so no idea about that part.

The college sports landscape is going to have to realize that to get any control on the situation they will have do what the pro sports do: Have a collective bargaining agreement with a player's union - that is the only way you can get to a place where you can set controls, salary caps, etc. Short of that, and imo, they will just end up in more lawsuits that they will continue to lose making it worse each time.

This is kinda why people didn't want college players getting paid in the first place. It's not that they don't deserve to be paid. But it's just that it opens a can of worms. These contracts for NIL are completely arbitrary in value and unproven players can assume any value they want. And with the freedom to go wherever they want, this will always happen. Couple that with greed and you have the system that you do.

Exactly and this is simply Tenn. saving face. Guy will get his $ elsewhere and his draft stock will be judged by what he does there.
Tennessee saving face?? How is this tennesssee saving face?! Tennessee actually stood its ground and didn’t cave to the player that most think they need to compete this coming season. They stuck to their principles.

And the odds of Nico getting $4+ million elsewhere on this short of notice is highly unlikely. Nico will be fortunate to get the $2.5 mil he was already going to get from Tennessee elsewhere IMO

He was going for more money than they were wiling to pay him and doing the college version of holding out so it's likely become a 'we didn't want you (enough) anyway' situation... unless you think it's a coincidence that they're moving on now that he's making a large financial demand.

Right now, all of college football is thanking Tennessee for putting their foot down and telling him to go F Off. If Nico bombs elsewhere, he’ll never live this down.

There’s no “coincidence”. They’re not pretending it’s not about the holdout.

Like TL said, it’s no coincidence because they aren’t hiding that’s the reason they are parting ways.

The university agreed to an amount with Nico to play here when he was a recruit. There are no true contracts, however.

Nico thought he could play hardball and had the leverage. Tennessee said…nope, our offer was the offer we agreed to and nothing more

Now, Nico finds himself on the outside looking for a team that can come up with that kinda $$ on short notice that also has a major need at QB…right at spring ball time when most teams have already made those decisions.

Nico not only cost himself $$ in this situation, but credibility as well. Whomstever encouraged him to do this is truly a moron and does not actually have Nico’s best interests in mind

Kinda the point. It wasn't his play or missing a practice other than how it relates to wanting more $ that caused this. He likely won't lose $ and play somewhere this year. I don't like it when guys renege on deals either but it's college ball and there's plenty of underhanded dealings/recruiting going on. I don't understand these responses effectively saying what I already did without the vitriol. Dude got dumped due to $ and will find another gig with at least as much and likely more. I don't like it but, meh.
